Rebel Moon hurt my heart, my brain and my bile duct

Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder's latest straight to Netflix film is as original as it is entertaining. When you get rejected by the purveyors of quality sci-fi at Lucasfilm it probably should tell you something.
I encourage everyone to watch Rebel Moon before it goess down the willow memory hole.

The thing is - once the bad soldiers in the village were killed, they didn't have to look for mercenaries anymore. The reason they were looking for mercenaries to defend the village was because they feared they would be wiped out. However, with them dead and having another 9 weeks before the rest come back - they could have easily migrated off to other planets available in that galaxy and simply got themselves absorbed into society since no soldier actually remembers who they are. I mean Kora and her companion were planet hopping with ease all over the galaxy. There is no reason for the villagers to stay and risk their lives fighting alongside mercs. If there was an in-movie reason why they should stay, then fine but none was ever given. Galaxy travel was available but yet they chose to stay and hope they can get mercs to save their collective asses. That's a huge plot hole.

And in reference to that opening image of the Saturn planet in the backdrop of the field while she plows: I'm no astronomer or physicist, but having a planet that nearby MUST have a gravitational pull on Verde with severe consequences. In fact, they look so close they are about to collide. The gravitational fields of both bodies must be intermingled, and they are probably in a binary orbit revolving around each other. Who knows! I don't think it is addressed at all, it was just "cool" for Snyder to put in a shot.

I was thinking the same, but truthfully we have no idea about the density of either planet. A binary barycentre around the sun would be a good assumption.

In the 'farmer' planet, on the background, there is a mountain with a GUSHING waterfalls. How can you get a GUSHING waterfalls on a frozen snowy mountain?? At most a thin streak of water.

I was a fan of Zack Snyder. I liked Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen. I first started to question his abilities and vision upon seeing Sucker Punch and the sequel to 300 that he produced. Rebel Moon is the Worst Movie of 2023. It’s worse than any Star Wars film, arguably even worse than the Holiday Special. I call it Battlefield Earth II: Rebel Moon - Child of Warhammer

Star Wars was heavily influenced by The Hidden Fortress and this appears to be heavily influenced by Seven Samurai. Kurosawa is the gift that keeps on giving.

I'm still trying to work out how, Kora, went from battlefield Hero, promoted to personal bodyguard to the Princess, to crash landing on Planet Amish and becoming the most wanted person in the Universe. Was it ever explained how or why She went from Motherland Hero to Rebel Outlaw, did I miss something?

Apart from it being a poo version of Seven Samurai, Magnificent Seven, Star Wars, Battle Beyond the Stars (and many many others) nothing in it makes sense. The evil empire were perfectly willing to *buy* the grain until the idiot villagers say "Um well, we've sold our surplus from last year to the rebels" instead of saying "Well, we sold last year's surplus to various merchants but we can have a load ready for you when you come back." There characters go around recruiting mercs to defend a village *from a star ship* that has already proven it can obliterate a target from orbit. What are those mercs Going to do? They have brought no high tech weapons, no fighters or combat craft, no missiles, nothing of value. Are they going to wave their pointy glowing sticks while the empire ship sits however many kilometres up and nukes the site from orbit? Just to be sure? The rest of it wasn't any better. EDITED: Fixing a couple of typos.

My question is, WHEN did Snyder pitch this to Lucasfilm?Was it before or after Disney's acquisition of the company? Because there's no way Kathleen Kennedy would've rejected a girl boss, guy cucking Star Wars pitch. She would've LOVED this! Sophia Boutella could've been another Rey!!!

The ideas presented in this movie adds nothing that hasn’t already been done in Star Wars movies or shows. Also, I’m sure Snyder was dumb enough to tell them he wanted to make it “hardcore”.

I haven’t seen it yet. I was looking forward to it, but after hearing from so many people that it’s awful, I may just skip it. To address your opening thought about it being a Star Wars ripoff- yeah that was one of the selling points I think. I don’t know if it was intentionally leaked, but basically Zack Snyder had pitched the script as a gritty Star Wars movie to Lucasfilms, but it was rejected, so he just changed it slightly and made it anyways.

It's 'meh' at best. Don't question the logic, story telling, acting, effects, pacing, or anything about it and you might enjoy it (Some people seem to love it). Just remember those are a few hours of your life you will never get back.

Personally, I didnt like any of his movies. I always found them too heavy, too horrible-CGI-focused, badly shot, with countless mistakes (like constant breaks in the 180° rule). To me, he's completely incapable of making a good movie.

If I have the correct book the 1st book, Lion of Macedon, is more historial fiction than the sequel (Dark Prince) which is much more of fantasy novel. They're two of my favourite Gemmell books.

I haven’t watched this and now it seems unlikely I will. I have seen several commentaries and reviews. This is supposedly a culture that is capable of interstellar travel. Why would they be dependent on looting grain haphazardly? Wouldn’t they a) be capable of synthesising food from base elements or b) have a plantation system established over their governance? Moreover, if they exterminate their source planets after ransacking them, won’t they eventually run out of food?

The empire general explains something about his ship has been hunting down rebel scum for ages and the bit of space they are in as a complete sh*thole. (Don't question why there is a town with a space port on the same planet and interplanetary travel is cheap and easy.) The thing is. He is willing to *buy* the grain before the idiot villagers tell him they sold their surplus for the year before to rebels. From what I recall, the soldiers are left behind to make sure the village doesn't sell all the grain to the rebels again (The empire wants a lot more now since, the villagers are rebel sympathisers) but everyone only has the female character's word that the Empire will wipe out the village (On a larger planet). Yes the garrison left behind consists of nearly all misogynistic r*py men of course. Apart from one Asian looking younger guy and a robot. So you know those are the good ones.

And here we go with that. No, Jupiter Ascending isn’t Better! In fact both Rebel Moon and Jupiter Ascending Suck! As they both Fail the basics of Storytelling, both have uninteresting or basic by the Numbers character that literally came Generic Cookie Cutter Character Press modes! And the setting of these worlds are just bland!

My friends always ask why I get riled up at these absolutely trash films that keep coming out. And they dont seem to understand that for every Rebel Moon or The Creator that gets released, it means that we miss out on potential trilogies, or series, or even just one off films that could have been excellent, well written, and benchmark raising pieces of SciFi. But instead we get this caravan of drivel from some egotist (Snyder) who has no one around him willing to tell him hes a fuckwit

Well said, I watched this on Netflix, and I was pissed off that people with the opportunity to make something special, came up with this derivative crapfest of a movie. Normally, after watching a crappy movie I don't care, and just pass it off as a bit of mindless entertainment, but Rebel Moon was SO bad, that I was irritated enough to check KZbin and see what other people were saying about it, and sure enough the feeling was about 80% mutual. You are right, people should be upset about this wasted opportunity, and angry about the sheer insult to people's intelligence that this pile of crap is.
