Since they just kept airing the same stuff over and over fewer people watched. They added newer and more popular shows to attract new viewers, but then they didn’t bother to create more numbers. So the bumpers would highlight shows from the 60s and 70s, but they aired during shows from the 90s or 00s. It was lazy and didn’t make sense.

Not gonna lie, I LOVED Boomerang as a kid, regardless of the grating repetition that, even as a kid annoyed the hell outta me at times. I'm never gonna forget that Josie and the Pussycats music video, or the Banana Splits one they aired all the time. The weird thing is that I very distinctly remember commercials airing on it at some point, but perhaps that was just me remembering incorrectly? I dunno, but all of those bumps are still engraved into my head, not to mention that I ended up discovering what became some of my favorite shows of all time on it.

Omg same. Boomerang was my childhood. It even got to the point where I got like 95% of the bumpers engraved in my memory. And if there’s one thing I remember vividly was being extremely distraught after seeing the rebrand in 2015, and then I had abandoned the channel after about a week later.

@horaciosi4 жыл бұрын
@@tmaldon Yeah, during the late 2000s Boomerang in Latin America changed it's programing to live-action teen dramas/comedies (mostly from Australia). Rebelde, Blue Water High , Foreign Exchange, Flight 29 Down, H2O: Just Add Water, Radio Free Roscoe, Snobs, The Sleepover Club, etc. But at least they showed reruns of Beakman's World, so they still had quality programing.
@monstersreview5 жыл бұрын
Very well said. When Cartoon Network started airing live-action and got a little shaky in the late 2000s, Boomerang became my go-to channel. I didn’t care that it was the same bumpers and shorts on repeat. I thought the branding was super quirky and loved that the channel had cool and unique blocks like Boomeraction, Boomeroyalty, and Boomerang Zoo. Virtually all of this was erased when it rebranded in 2015. The new look wasn’t representative of its vintage programming, recently produced shows were added to the lineup, and the blocks disappeared. The variety and more obscure older shows ceased, only leaving the bigger franchises like Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, and Looney Tunes. I guess people can watch DVDs or use the streaming service, but the bland schedule certainly wouldn’t want me to tune in anyway. It’d be nice for more CN classics to air because for most, either only the first few seasons or nothing at all was released.

@@joman66 Well I hate the fact that cartoon Network and boomerang have become complete garbage. I started watching cartoon Network in the late 90s early 2000's and that was the best time ever. Before the stupid live action shows and and the complete downhill slide of quality in general on both channels. There were brief glimpses of hope here and there with stuff like regular show, gumball and a few others but pretty much everything after the mid 2000's CN real phase was crap. It's very clear the future lies on the internet with apps. I kind of wish they would just put the TV channels down as an act of kindness.
@ichiyacharendini-stewart1365 жыл бұрын
Monstersreview pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. And to think, if CN respected Boomerang a lot more to let them be as experimental as they were and didn't greedily reprimand them (I know this because I would see quickly read schedules within the week on the station's guide and the airtimes would change certain programming within the days approaching), they could continue to have their cake and eat it. Variety programming (classic, modern or even more obscure) on regular TV, internet, DVD or streaming service -- it could be accessible to any platform if you think about it. (Sigh) Why? Just why?
@eatatjoe5 жыл бұрын
I hated when they just dropped the classic/early/mid-90's/00's show mix without warning to dump all the then-recent stuff on the network--transforming it into CN Two. It's like how Nicktoons turned from a channel that showed Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Kablam! Rocket Power, etc. into a channel that only has like 10 shows on it and you can watch three of them on Nickelodeon.

Death by neglect. So that thing came full circle. In the 60s and 70s, children's programming consisted of the station owners put something on for their kids or an eager wannabe TV exec exiled to the farm report and kids program for getting to handsy with said station owner's mistress. It wasn't until the mid 70s that corporate America realized parents bought stuff for their kids and kids were easier to pitch. Boomerang suffered the same neglect as Cartoon Network, it just had a shorter fall. The saddest part is that enormous library is rarely used. There are a dozen Flintstones clones they never used like the Roman Holidays. Even more mystery solving clones like Scooby Doo and so many video game cartoons from Pacman to Dragon's Lair. Its like having the Library of Congress and only sticking to Dan Brown and John Grisham.

It'll never happen, but I would like to see Boomerang go OTA and become a broadcast digital subchannel like MeTV or Antenna. It would fill a niche (especially now that Kids Click is gone) and since it is so low cost, it works for having a low budget. Plus, since Boomerang already doesn't get a lot of viewers since it's typically only available in the highest tiers of cable/satellite packages, there's a decent chance it would get more viewers as a broadcast network. They could even use it to advertise the main CN channel.
@2057ajdj5 жыл бұрын
This is a great idea. IMO MeTV is currently the best OTA channel you can watch. Adding something like Boomerang would really help add some variety to the stale OTA channel line up. I was reeeeeeeeeeeeeally pissed when they changed Boomerang in its past incarnation. I didn't have it until about 2007, and I loved it. Idk how many summers I spent watching the channel almost all day, even leaving it on in the background all day. But what you said about "having all the shows you like ready to watch on plenty of platforms" couldn't be more true. I can watch Space Ghost for twenty hours straight, which is unhealthy, but appealing to the eyes, any time I want here on KZbin, so I guess Boomerang in its former format is obsolete. RIP my favorite TV channel all-time, though

In Mexico, Boomerang was all about old animation, until they changed it circa 2007 to appeal to the "tween" demographic. It was recently they brought back animation, but as a mix bag of old animation, new animation and new animation named after old animation, but, to that point there was something better, TOONCAST, just like a Boomerang for Cartoon Cartoons.

At least by the time I got Boomerang, they only ever seemed to show Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo (and only the first 3 seasons of that) and the Flintstones. They didn't have to repeat so much: They had access to a TON of old Hannah Barbara cartoons that they just never showed. I never saw Thundarr air, Trixie and Dixie, Space Ghost, or really anything other than those 4 and the occasional Yogi or Quick Draw. Not getting the app until they get more selection on there (and I have more money) but it sounds like a good idea.

4:15 As a kid I always thought of ways to extend a channel like Boomerang or Nicktoons Network to have a much longer life span. The plan I had was to treat the shows like they were new, and have a full show fully trinkle out every week until all the episodes of one show were released. The network would air multiple shows and have them run along aside each other. For example, their lineup of "new" episodes every friday would be of Fosters, Billy and Mandy, Camp Lazlo, and Kids Next Door. There would have been bumpers made to advertise those episodes like they were new, or just reuse the original bumpers they showed back then. Looking back at that I think it's not a very good way of structuring your channel, because that would only make pirating feel more enticing. The only positive would really be to artificially capture the feel of watching those cartoons on premiere date, but even then the ends do not justify the means.

I was more of a "Nick at Nite"/"SNICK" guy growing up, so I didn't really check out Boomerang until much later into it's life. It was still showing older cartoons for a while, but by the time we got rid of our Foxtel service a couple of years ago, it had migrated to showcasing newer shows, no classics to be found.

This app has Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers in HD which is a cool kind of hidden media from looney tunes. The rest of the app is disappointing though, if they added all the 90's cartoons I think I would have stuck with it. Maybe one day the DC, WB, CN, and Boomerang apps will all combine into one app and it will be glorious.

Let’s be honest, even though so many of us grew up with those old Boomerang bumpers and are nostalgic, they really needed to be retired after airing for over a decade.
