Good memories. I was with Andy when he opened Lanna, at the old location just down the road. I was training the day Kru Kom started and I remember Boon, Chun, Kem, Toom etc as school boy begginers. The farangs there were mainly Dutch at the time and crazy. There was even a death in the old gym but that's another story. I was the first farang to fight for Lanna. Thanks for the memory.

THanks for the post Sylvie, I'm a dutch kickboxer and wish to train and fight in Chiang Mai, Thailand & really love vibe of this gym. I have two questions ; how quick after arriving and training at the camp can you fight (preperation towards fightnight) & are there sleeping acccomodation on the camp sites & or affordable ones near the Camp?

This gym doesn't exist anymore, but you can check out the reviews and recommendations, as well as ask questions at the Muay Thai Roundtable, where more contemporary info is available from the community that has recent or current direct experience: 8limbsus.com/muay-thai-forum/topic/793-my-list-of-muay-thai-gyms-i-recommend-in-thailand/

Just did a week here, complete garbage, one of the worst gyms I trained at, now they are charging 900 baht a day, I've had 22 fights and they gave me an 80 year old trainer who didn't have a clue and gave horrific technique , trained all over, anywhere is Bette than this crap. Even had the cheek to make train some of their students who were fighting soon, complete insult. Majority of pad holders are shocking there I would just look I'm awe how bad they are.

I was there in my 20s (golden years) and I agree, crap. Andy was rude to me when I fought one of his boys, he said something that was just rude, I wanted to rematch this fella but the fella broke his ankle. Some of the guys were great but the place is not a good gym. I trained with sor anucha, took a 15 minute drive outside of Chiang Mai. There are many gyms in Thailand and many will gladly take your money. Lanna was/is one of them. I got paid to fight, I didn't pay for training. This is not the experience I have of lanna muay thai. The mentality of a lot of the farang was thuggish, group mentality. Not very "thai" at all. They'd often start fights outside of the ring, obnoxious and just not for me. Andy definitely lost my respect and I hear he died. I didn't hate the man but hope he didn't suffer but yea, he was outright rude to me and had his boy not broke his ankle and I got that rematch I'd have made it personal with Andy, not my opponent (Chinese fella used to train there?) who was a nice guy. Just doing his job. Andy was a pleb.
