Little tip for blasting the wheels. I use a cheap 2 man tent. Catches all the media at the bottom and keeps the mess contained. Handy for the odd frame and wheels that won't fit in the cabinet. I love your oven extender by the way. Nice job

For the spokes I normally use vise grips chuck them in an ultrasonic cleaner 15-20 minutes later scotchbright pad and they look brand new. Seems like a bit of work but really not that bad.

You put a lot of work and I can see how much you care about detail. You are clever solving. This was a wonderful video. It could be as much a video for powder coating than just rims. Great job and thanks!

Love your channel. My CRF 110 has the ace front shock with the disc conversion kit and my front wheel is black it looks really good but now I need to paint my rear rim black to match. Lol.

Thanks for this video, it helped me alot. However, I don’t understand why you would torque all the spokes/nipples to the same torque after truing the wheel. Don’t you mess all the truing work up then or are the adjustments minor with the torque wrench? :)
@northernmx597310 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes sometimes you can mess up the true a bit but that's just a general torque I use sometimes it may have to be tweeked a bit

When you tighten the screws with a torque wrench, every third screw or maybe one at a time?

Awesome video! Really appreciate the effort you made by throughly covering all steps of this prowess Thoughts on cerakote vs powder coating? I’m assuming powder coating the rims might be better. Cerakoting smaller parts like the hubs and other parts of the bike seems like it would be easier than powder coating if you don’t have a powder coater. Also after you removed the bearings if the hubs you didn’t haven’t to cover the holes on the hubs when powder coating? I’m assuming you don’t want to get a layer of power coat inside where the bearings sit. Since it adds some thickness or is this a non issue.

Hey thanks for the kind words and questions. I would definitely recommend powder coating because it's easier to set up in the way that you don't have to mix anything and you can just blow the powder off after pre oven application if anything doesn’t look right. Cerakote is a better option if you’re working with really tight tolerances and high heat which is why it is commonly used on firearms but for dirt bike wheels power coat works fine. And I did tape off the bearing bores when I coated them cause powder coat is too thick and will jam the new bearings on installation.

Nice video. I’ve been considering something similar. What are your thoughts on hard anodising these parts instead of powder coat, either process would be something that I would have to send the parts away for, I would just strip and rebuild.
@northernmx5973 Жыл бұрын
Thanks! If I had the options I would definitely get the spoke nipples anodized as the powder coat gets a little gnarled up in the truing process but I'm definitely happy with the way the rim and hubs turn out in powder coat

Anyway to fix some rust on the spoke nipples ( inside ) on my KTM 690 Endur R wheels? Not sure how water got inside. Perhaps from washing bike. Do you think I can spray WD40 from outside base of spoke into wheel? Thanks. Kam
@northernmx5973 Жыл бұрын
WD40 might work but taking the wheel apart and cleaning the spokes and nipples will have the best results
