Gross sticks came with a cheap vita that I bought the other day so I decided to show how I clean and replace them.
For cleaning I just use soapy water and a toothbrush.
Plastic replacement sticks are cheap, replacement analog modules are expensive. Check another video for disassembling/reassembling the vita (I'll have one up soon)

Warning: Incorrect in the video! 7:55 Inverted y-axis! A viewer in the comments (TS) showed me that the plastic bump on the white axis piece needs to face outward even though I say that it needs to face inward. 7:55 Facing the bump inward will just invert the y-axis and the stick will need to be taken apart again.

Hope you saw the pinned comment. If you follow the video EXACTLY your North+South (y axis) will be inverted. There is one orientation that I have backwards.

Just so you know, on the 1st gen ps3 controller also non dualshock and 1st dualshock release they uses hall effect sensors just like gulikit pro controller, the business model change when they want maximize profit so many consumer buy controller when its wear out over time

Great stuff.thank you. To make putting the ribbon back easier don’t remove the top piece just the two magnet ones on side so you can split the two black piec3s apart. Worked great just done mine. Springs are a MF lol lost and found twice lol

Does anyone know if these are the more typical magnet-hall setup, or are these like the majority of PS3 controllers where they're an inductor-magnet-sense setup? I want to assume the latter, given the era of Sony these come from, but I'm hoping for the former. Not really important for Vita repairs, but important for documentation and if someone wanted to use these in a custom peripheral.

Thank you so much for this awesome video! Greatly helpful. In my case, even after completly cleaning it and perfectly reassembling, it continues ghosting. It pushes continuously towards one side. Ive already checked the port and it works perfectly with another stick. In this case the problem must be the in the ribon cable?

So you swapped the stick with the other and it works perfectly? If that is the case, yes my guess is one of the drifting stick's ribbon cable wires has severed or grounded. It will need to be replaced - only way I know is a full stick replacement. Kind of expensive, sorry.

Sony pavita 1st gen has more reliable analogue because it uses hall effect sensors unlike on the psvita slims 2000 they use carbon type potentiometer

Hi Anderxale! Is it possible to replace just the flex? (I have a "dead" joystick, I think the flex is damaged. If I replace it, the new one works ok). If so, do you know where could I buy it? Thanks

This was such a helpful video! However I've managed to invert my left analog stick now... for the life of me I can't work out where I went wrong in the reassembly. X axis is fine, but y axis in inverted. Any thoughts?

Nevermind. After taking it to pieces and putting it back together I worked it out. Where you say the plastic bump goes inward. On the left analog stick, it goes outward (at least on mine!). Not sure if it's reversed for the right analog stick. But I'm going to clean that one in a bit so I'll check.

It makes sense that your magnet was backwards for reverse poles if your direction was inverted. I'll take a closer look, thanks for letting me know and sorry you had to take it apart twice...

@@anderxale1 No problem. It looks like they're both with the little nub facing outwards. It fits into a groove on the top bit of black plastic that you snap on. Unfortunately as I was taking the right one apart, I managed to break the ribbon cable (whoops) so now have to wait for a replacement until I can get back to playing! I'm building myself up to doing your battery mod. Got the lipo, thermistor, and JST connectors ready and waiting!

@@MegaTommyboy25 Noooo! Dang. Well if you want to play while you wait... So, many games only require 1 stick... the sticks are interchangeable so you can put the good stick on the left. There is a plug-in to disable the right stick - because while broken or disconnected it will give false input.

I accidentally cut the wire on my analog but i got a spare analog the only problem was it doesn't have a rubber on top of it. Can I just swap the wires from rubberless analog to cut wire analog?

Yes! If both sticks are for OLED or both are for SLIM the parts are interchangeable.

Great stuff just ordered parts needed to change my ps fat to white from black the hole console new white screen and back cover. The only part I can’t find is the x o square triangle buttons and ps button all sold out it sucks. Do u know if ps vita 2000 buttons can be trimmed to work I know the ps button won’t work as it’s round. Thanks

@@MrTroll69onyt Well... many Vita games don't use the right stick. You could put the complete stick on the left and use a plugin to disable the right stick until you find a solution for the right stick. (Enso vita only)

Yes definitely. Fluid that dried, dust, hair can all interfere with the magnets. It's just not as common as the 2000 sticks.

Suprt i opened my vita because of drift found out the large cable the battery sits on was loose for some reason even without the clip being lifted. i pushed it in snug no more drift. but a few of the ribbon holders were so brittle they snapped like a twig one of them being the back sensitivity pad the vita is over 10 years old and those parts have no elasticity they break. i am scared to open it again and hope i dont have to do what you just did

I didn't use any (maybe a mistake?). I prefer mineral oil machine lubricants for plastic + metal. Good luck choosing something :)

@@anderxale1 I was thinking of using a little bit of silicone grease or yeah, mineral oil sounds like a good idea.

@@firecatinfernus3534 Go with the grease! Mineral oil is too viscous and will fall out, it has to be thick. Silicone grease is also great for plastic and metal

@@anderxale1 Thanks a lot for the tutorial video. I didn't use silicone grease. I collected the existing grease onto the bottom plate and washed the stick cap with soap and water. After that I simply reapplied the same grease and reassembled the module. It's free of dust now. Thanks again.
