A dry gasket will get baked on to engine surfaces that have to be scraped off during reassemblies down the road. I use a wire wheel bit on a drill instead of scraping to save time. A wire wheel attachment on a grinder does quicker work and is better for cleaning rusted and machined surfaces. I use the chocolate colored non-hardening gasket sealer just lightly smeared on both sides of gaskets so it doesn't squeeze out the sides when bolted down. on the oil pan and valve cover I use grease on one side of the gasket so it can be reused if removal of the pan is necessary in the future. Spraying the copper gasket sealer to head gaskets helps them to be reusable. Even white lithium grease on both sides of a gasket will stop oil and coolant leaks. You can make yourself a heavy duty engine stand for out of frame rebuilds.

Great work from what I can see... There's a world of difference in making mistakes in the youtube world versus in a world where many of my generation came up. If we were lucky, we had an old codger or 2 who would scream maddingly in one ear while we learned on the fly - fire by fire. Most days, we had zero feedback and FUBAR'd a ton of hardware along the way. I prefer this method myself, opening up thoughts to comment and feedback. Don't worry, you'll still make more mistakes and hopefully get more responses and feedback to generate the side-hustle.

That colour is probably darn close, I don't know if you have the Rust Check Farm & Equipment Rust Paint, Old Caterpillar Yellow was the closest I could find for the older 160H Motor Graders I used to run. The 160M's were easy to find matching paint as most brands were so close you couldn't tell after a few weeks of sunlight. Good Job on the rebuild, can't wait to hear the old girl purr. I'm in the middle of changing the engine, rear subframe, rear differential, driveshaft, and all of the suspension in my wife's Pilot. We have 2 Pilots for parts, and I've been taking everything apart to make one good one out of the 3. When you talk about gathering bolts to get them all where they are supposed to go, man, do I know that feeling! Great work! And thanks for showing the setbacks.
