Rebuilding a Broken Lamborghini Gallardo Transmission - Assembly - Part 4

Excited to share my journey learning how to rebuild the Graziano L140 Transmission that's used in the Lamborghini Gallardo and Generation 1 Audi R8.
This transmission was reported to not shift from the shop when run at operating temperature, and was gathering dust at a junkyard. Can we diagnose what went wrong and save it?

By the way im trying out 75W140 Motul Gear Performance in my r8 manual gearbox, i know i recommended the 75W90 Gear 300 LS to you last time and you enjoyed it. Will keep you updated with how the 75W140 feels

Took a manual transmission building class at community college and then proceeded to study the service manual 😬

Do you have any recommendation for improving gear on the ‘04 gallardo gearbox? Pretty long first gear. Also wondering if shift speed can be improved with a dog box

You can change the spur gears to shorten everything or switch out to a later transmission with shorter first gear.

@@ftwgarage nice, would that require using a corresponding TCU with the year of transmission? Only asking cuz 04 TCU is fried and need to pick a direction

@@Barnbootsnblossoms corresponding tcu will not matter as long as you stay within the pre LP generation. If getting an LP transmission, speed sensor locations might be different and you may need to switch to the LP TCU and/or adapt the wiring harness accordingly. This is just my guess though, so definitely do your homework before committing.

@@ftwgarage I tried an 07 tcu and it didn’t work unfortunately. Raj in lambo group said only 04-05, so really I have no idea. Any idea if it can be run with an aftermarket ecu?

@@Barnbootsnblossoms With an aftermarket ecu, you may need to figure out how to communicate with the EGear actuator, which is far from plug and play. Bummer the later TCUs cannot work.

could you not just replace the bad gears, synchros and bearings and rebuild it...or is that cost-prohibitive?

So all the gears have scorched marks, some more so than others - it's definitely cost prohibitive to do. You're better off buying a used transmission at this point.
