That motor has been properly maintained . I recently stripped a 100k km Fd motor and it looked almost new inside. No iron rust , no step wear just abit dirty. Some one has used the right coolant and changed the oil regularly .

Great to see another girl who loves rotaries. I had a beautiful FB RX7 I motor swapped and taught myself alot! My first motor swap by myself too. I had some great help via FaceTime with my buddy Jared at Rotors in Nebraska. Rotaries are so much fun and so easy to rebuild and not terribly expensive if you have good people you can get stuff from. Was this motor ported or previously rebuilt? Its great condition!

Wishing you success on the 20B rebuild Collete. There is a man in Miami that is considered to be one of the world's top experts for this engine. His name is Carlos Lopez. His shop is called CLR Motorsports. He has built hundreds of these engines with attention to details that most ignore. I don't know if he would be willing to help but it would be worth trying to contact him. Mazda once hired him to build the engine for their Le mans race car. It was very successful.

A recommendation. Try using a Quaker trans fluid oil drum (the small one) to use to tear down / build the engine vs using the engine stand. Makes it way easier to tear down/build the motor vertically and have 360 degree access in my experience. Plus not having to unbolt the stand as you tear down saves a bunch of time. I know you are making a video here so time probably isn't as much of an issue but in my mechanic days time was money.

I'm sure garage life has told you but you have to pay real close attention to the seals, their orientation and which seals go where when you finally put it back together. Other than that, rotaries are pretty simple they pretty much bolt back together.

Hi it looks like you have scored a good engine. When striping down a 20b you need to leave the rear section together the rear and center section. You strip the front rotor apart like you did then you separate the crank shaft so it is still supported buy the rear and centre stationary gears this will stop you from damaging the crank and main center plate. Please don't try and separate the crank the way you have it know. It will damage the most important parts. Reassembeled the rear 2 rotor housings and rear 2 iron plates with out the rotors then separate the front section of the crank with a slide hammer that will screw into the front crank lobe note this is very tight and will need a lot of force it is lock on a tappered section of the crank. Good luck with it. Ps please remove all claw hammers from you work area if is see one again i will i will be pissed.

lighting is a great idea, but it's introducing a roll into the video, if you're dimming them maybe don't, and compensate with the iris, or a filter, on the lens, or some neutral density gel on the lights. my guess is your using some form of LED or CFL lamps, maybe look to swapping them for a higher quality film friendly lamp.or switch back to a incandescent.
