In this video I will start and finish the rebuild of this theft recovery 2017 GMC Sierra Denali. It is a clear title, Texas truck that appeared to be a simple build. Things are not always as they appear. I found some expensive parts to replace.

I've got one of those German steel anti-theft systems, it's the .45 model, by H&K. Super reliable, it even has a cool green laser, to see where you're going, day or night. The only drawbacks of it are it's really loud, and makes quite a mess when used properly. Did I mention I detest car thieves? They should get the same treatment horse thieves used to get. A tall tree & a short rope.

I’m learning a lot how to fix trucks I can’t afford to buy a truck so I’m thinking I might buy a truck that’s been damaged and trying to repair it myself watching your videos. I have a 2018 Sierra Denali that I bought from the auction with the 8 speed - the shudder was fixed in mine with a fluid flush. There is a bulletin out on that from GM. Also there is a button on the back of the running boards to tap with your foot that will extend the running boards to the rear. It appears that those long bolts for the front struts are the ones you get with a leveling kit. I'll bet someone put those defective struts on there and took the leveling kit blocks. Nice truck, I really enjoy driving mine and it cost me about half of what one with a clean title would cost. You are the king of GMC truck repair!

This was one of the best episodes Scott. I had no idea the front shocks were so huge. I also had no idea the running boards would rotate so to speak to help the owner get items in or out of the box. When it came to the GPS, you are the detective of detectives. I assume GM doesn’t sell that coax cable behind the radio that was damaged? No words for the amount of work & money you saved your customer. See you in the next installment. Have a great weekend.

SCOTT, I like to do complete trans fluid changes by disconnecting the cooler line at the rad/ trans cooler that's feeding the cooler. Then connect a piece of hose to it going to a 5 gal bucket. Then, start the motor, let the fluid flow into the bucket until it sputters, turn off the motor, then add that many quarts to the trans. And repeat until the fluid is new looking. About 10 - 12 quarts. This does the entire trans INCLUDING the TC. NO pressure flush!

Tech Tip No 1: For those awkward gaskets that always move just as you get it all lined up or won't stay in place upside down we used to use small cable ties through 4 holes to hold the gasket on to the pan or whatever, offer it up, get some bolts started, cut out the ties, bolt it up ..... sorted. That was another nice Texas buy as it was all mostly mechanical issues and reasonably easily sorted.

I got really lucky with an Excursion V10 truck years ago. It was a low mileage rollover with a Florida certicate of destruction that was 2yrs old at the time. It had more damage from the tow company recovering it than the lazy half roll did to it. Went to Florida and brought it back to northeast Ohio. Replaced the roof and an a-pillar along with the windshield and some misc parts. I got it inspected and issued a new title and started using it. About a week later the trans freaked out so I took it to my local dealer. They covered the repairs under warranty and it was good as new. I'm still not sure how I had warranty coverage on a rebuilt truck but I didn't argue.

ATX resident w/ 2nd broken windshield in a year here...huge amount of construction w/ related rock (and a little dirt) hauling by clapped out trucks w/ limited inspection has rocks all over the road - add in all that truck traffic, many many lifted pickups w/ no mud flaps, and those rocks get flung everywhere. I hear they're very hard to come by on getting replacements.

Windshield replacement: I used to live in Kentucky and had several windshields replaced with no deductibles. When I moved to Tennessee a few years ago, my broken windshield cost around $300 which was not covered by my deductible. Kentucky requires insurance companies to fully cover windshields (sorry....I don't know about side and rear glass). I think Kentucky is the exception meaning that most states do not require full insurance coverage.
