This 2019 Aston Martin Vantage has become quite a project! I bought it after it had been involved in a front end accident. Finding the parts has been challenging but the biggest challenge of all has been removing the dashboard. After finding out that Aston Martin use a special crane to install and remove the dashboard i was shocked, but still determined and believed i could do it myself in the unit without the special crane.

I would not say designed to make money, I think as a car manufacturer it will be designed for ease of production, if everything is done outside the car for the dash then in someway it actually makes sense?

It’s all down to the most efficient way of installing the parts. Every penny they save on the initial installation is profit, they’re not interested in how difficult it is to repair a crash damaged car as there’s no profit in it for them

​@@christopherruddick88 When you combine this with the fact they won't sell certain parts to anyone but Authorised Repair Centers, that says they don't want anyone else repairing their cars. That is borderline anti right to repair. Which means they're doing it for the money.

And certain parts only go through them I guarantee if this went to a regular mechanic, they wouldn't take the work. In this case, they want him to send the car in because he would have to pay out of pocket. This car was probably deemed a write off because of how expensive it is for the customer and potentially parts availability. They might as well sell what's left of the car and get a new one.

I’ve recently found Mat’s channel, this young man has me hooked. I’m 58 years old, had the cars and bikes but never taken any projects on as labor intensive as Mat’s. I’m working my way through all of his builds, the Aston really is something special and an epic journey. Great job, great perseverance. I think you will find that whoever you get to re-trim the dashboard should be able to buy the same leather it's not exclusive to Aston. I had a section on my DB9 done and the same leather was used. Shrinking leather is a common problem with most Aston's so the leather is generally available through the main manufacturer Bridge of Weir based in Scotland.

To be fair, it technically was only 30 bolts in total and probably would’ve been so much easier had he known what he was doing.. wild that you have to take it out tho

Now that's a job I wouldn't fancy taking on. I almost felt the pain for you from my big comfy couch 😂. One thing I will say tho is. Make sure you change the "O" rings on the aircon pipes before you put it all back together. For the sake of a quid, it just ain't worth taking the risk they may leak when everything is back together haha.

Removing this dashboard is a full nightmare. But there is no other way to repair the "AIRBAG" damage. It is hours and hours of work but this car is truly GREAT. I am sure that a lot of people are ready to exchange their cars (Mc Laren or Ferrari) or to buy your ASTON. Congratulations for your great work, MAT.

I’ve been outside in the rain trying to change the main beam bulb on 2010 Polo…. Cut me hand to pieces. Dropped the rubber cover into the engine bay and now the beam points to the sky….. it’s not just the skill this guy has it’s the patience that amazes me. That car would’ve been crushed , set on fire, crushed again and dumped in the sea by now if I had started this. Good work my man,

I believe in crash damage cars because it gives it another life, if not it will just be salvaged down for parts and you lose your car. Any that can be saved if it’s financial benefit should be saved if possible, cars are designed to smash up and crumble so often look worse than they are, it’s why I love this channel. We need to remember cars aren’t the same as they were in the 90s.
