To be honest a lot of people here in Europe are switching to Turbolamik TCU from the HTG unit. The setup of the Turbolamik is way easier and its made exclusively for the 8hp. (The HTG is more universal). We curently have a few guys running in our national series with the 8hp90 (best version) and they are pushing around 1000-1200nm to the wheels. And even with that power the gearbox is able to go through multiple seasons. And if it breaks it super cheap…

Adam! What your transmission code meant was that it had been flat towed and the gearing gets out of wack. After driving, the computer starts rectifying the code and letting the transmission go back to normal/manual. 🙏 hope your project exceeds your expectations! What's interesting about this is that a 6MT version of the supra was recently released, but I think your plan to retrofit existing supras with either clutch/handbrake or swapping the transmission to manual is the best move, considering you'll also be able to market those mods thru DriftHQ

ive been looking into the 8hp70 for the n54 and have a mate that did one to an rb26 skyline here in australia, from what i understood the turbolamik can bolt directly into the old can/ecu and power the car, might work on the supra but you got HTG flying out so thats probably not an option, the zeroto60 guys did figure out that clutch pedal slave cylinder mock up tho! excited to see new ideas/designs which will hopefully create more competition for parts! excited!!!!

Talk to ‘0 to 60’ in Australia, they’re documenting and developing swap kits using the 8hp, they’ve just put one in a V8 Land Cruiser and fitted a sequential like shifter for manual feel. Their drift car also uses a 8hp and clutch pedal

This is a great idea, and now that they come manual, you can potentially use oem clutch pedals with your kits. Biggest hurdle outside of tuning the HTG box and getting it to exist well with the CAN protocol is going to be the wiring inside the trans. Given it allows the use of an otherwise unrealistic chassis, I think people will be down for it.
