That pyro fuse situation is clever work by Porsche. Means greater repair costs which equal more write-offs which equals more replacement sales.

Mat Armstrong also found out that Porsche engineers did not make getting to the pyro fuse easy. What were they thinking? They got everything else right. If you buy a salvage car with a deployed instrument panel/passenger air bag, be ready to also remove the dash board.
@remie449411 ай бұрын
Mat Armstrong had to take all the dash apart on his, which he sold to Tavarish, but he found out the Porsche sells the entire fuse box just to get the Pyro Fuse, but you could've found the Pyro Fuse just by itself without the fuse box. And the aluminum cage has a bolt securing it in the frunk side. I wonder how Porsche puts that in. I have to see that..

As a german, being known for perfectionist when it comes to car engineering, I feel very ashamed to see what efforts it takes just to replace a fuse. The serviceability manager at Porsche should be fired. Anyhow, I also have the experience that in eastern Europe one will find very good handcrafters, and you are a good example for it. Great job.

Hi Vlad, I know this might sound unbelievable but dashboard comes out much more together than how you dismantle it. If you look at the Porsche manufacturing video they put the whole dashboard in the car when it is assembled. That is why the bolts screw from the outside not from inside. Can you please check if that is the case? I had to replace dashboard on another car and though I had to take the whole dashboard apart but just needed to get glove box compartment off and then some other panels to get to the dashboard frame bolts, than it’s was unhooking main harness and it came off together with the steering wheel etc….

I've always wondered with jobs like this (removing the entire dashboard in pieces) why it has to be done in this fashion, when in the factory most dashboards arrive on the assembly line pre-assembled, and are lifted into the car by a carrier, and then simply bolted in place (using only a few bolts). At least, that is how many videos of car assembly lines show this process. The workers definitely do not assemble a dash out of a 100 individual pieces, they absolutely don't have the time, as they only have minutes to do the install, before the next car arrives on the line. So why do you have to take the dash completely apart (down to its individual bits) to remove it? The location of that pyro fuse is absolutely ridiculous. Gorgeous car though, and I admire your care and meticulousness in fixing this rare Porsche.

I think the car companies especially the high end cars purposely bury the pyro fuse to drive up repair cost to make the car totaled so the owner can get a new car. Its so easy to locate that switch relay in an easier spot. So cool you and your dad work together!!!

I was really holding my breath when Vlad finally decided to try the key 😮 Glad it started 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 As an afterthought, I’d probably have come up with a way to hold the pyro fuse outside the mount so the next guy could easily replace it if needed.
