I deliver pizza to Dave quite often, always so amazing to see the old Subarus in his driveway. Subarus are my bread and butter so he inspired me to want to own a swapped brumby seeing his drive around. Crazy to see him on MCM but I had a feeling we would see him as soon as they revealed the car 😂

My good mate, his name was Peter - had a Canary yellow Subaru wagon of this era - he bought it off another mate's wife who had just passed away - we had a couple of cool drives in it. I just wish I had convinced him to sell it to me and kept it. Since then he's moved on after a short battle with metastatic cancer, but the memories are there. He was an absolute nutter, he described a story where his kids sat on the front of his brumby to get it to drive up a steep hill that he was living on before he paved the driveway which turned to mud in the winter!

I have such fond memories of these cars. It was the first car I ever drove, although I should probably correct that somewhat by admitting that I was just steering whilst sat on my great grandfathers knee. He had a beautiful red one on his farm in Norfolk U.K, I'd also sit in the back and push hay bales off the rear for the (then) terrifying giant herd of cattle chasing us down like a pride of hungry lion (I was only seven or eight years old O.K!) which was a real rush.. Hadn't thought about it in decades but the sight of this car brought it all back along with a big smile on my face. I 'd love to own one of these cars some day but they're extremely rare in the U.K.

Yes, lift it. My uncle had a Brat on his 300 acre cattle farm, he figured out a lift kit. Me and his boys learned to drive in that thing when i was 10. It was a blast, we used to jump it and tear thru the pastures in that brat. Brings back fun memories. U cant find them in the states anymore.

In the states we called these a Subaru Brat, early ones came with a pair or seats (no seat belts) in the bed with handles to hold on to while your pals jumped over sand dunes. They were very popular on the west coast in California, Oregon & Washington State. Cool project!

Wasn't ready for 15:40! So true though. I'm only now just starting to see the finish line on my own project car. The emotional cost of setbacks and delays has been huge and I've been so disheartened of late. Making content for youtube amplifies the feeling of failure a hundred fold when it gets delayed. Doesn't help that I did most of it alone through lockdown. It's great that you're doing this as a couple of mates, that support and friendship would be invaluable when the going gets tough

Subarino the legend. I knew Dave from years ago when he first started with the MY Wagons. I lived in his locality at the time. I built my first lifted wagon from some parts of one of his donor cars. With his knowledge and others in WA, and on AUSubaru forum I got my first real modded car, a '81 round headlight wagon. Then I moved onto a L-Series turbo, then a Forester. So good to see Dave has gone to the next level in this as a business!
