My first time rebuilding cylinders. It's easy really!

I was reluctant, not knowing what I'd run into. Well, I guess technically it's not my first time. Ryan helped me swap a ram on Wilbur's bed cylinder. But it's the first time I've done one entirely on my own. It's just nuts and bolts, like most anything else. No special tools required. I broke it down to the gland nut and the ram end assembly, and then brought those pieces into the dealer so they could match up all the seal. We effectively rebuilt the cylinders right there on the counter. No need to bring the whole cylinder or ram in, unless the cylinder is so bad that it needs honed or something, but that's a whole different story.
This was easy, and I'm so happy I did it! Long story short, the bucket still flops a bit when under undue stress, but it's not running oil out on the ground and leaking of anymore, so it was worth it!

Those short handle wrenches are known as "Bonney Wrenches" or line wrench. The original ones are no longer made but similar designed ones are and they do work great!

If I can’t find them anymore I’ll buy full size combination wrenches and cut them in half if I have to!

Tom, Could you give a list of all the parts and part numbers. I cannot find any parts list for my bucket cylinder that is also leaking. Mine is a C-50HL but the C-50 both use the same bucket cylinder parts. I have a 2005 C47L century tractor with a 50HL loader. Thanks.

I don’t have a list or part numbers. I took the components to the dealer and they dug through a few different packages to match up seals and o-rings. It was like $50 and 40 min to sort it out. Not horrible

wait you drove the wiper seal into the gland while it was while it was on the rod? your supposed to put all the orings and the wiper seal on the gland first then slide the whole gland on to the rod your going to want to tear those apart and replace those wiper seals or your going to be cussing yourself best case scenario dirt gets in and chews up your new orings worst case the dirt scars the inside of the cylinder and the whole things junk.

Yes I know, I’ll have to do it again sooner than later. I couldn’t get the ram to slide through the gland with the dust seal on at first. I tried for quite some time. They’ve already torn and fell out, so it’s just a matter of time. Next time the rebuild will be much faster and smoother at least 😁
