Rebuilding Slackware Packages to Include Additional Features

A very quick mid-week video to demonstrate how easy it is to enable or disable support for specific features in Slackware.
This video uses Fluxbox as an example and I recompile the package to include support for imlib2 - which allows the use of icons in the Fluxbox menu.

Thanks for a really interesting video, you've really piqued my interest in Slackware again - it was the first Linux distro that I used back around 1996. Gentoo Linux has been my one single Linux distro since 2003 and whilst I still think it's the best distro there is, I also love tinkering with really old PCs and Gentoo just takes too long to compile on some of those. I was not aware that you could compile your own package versions in Slackware but that's also one of the very few distros that still supports 32-bit Intel (like a lot of my older PCs) so I am definitely going to have to consider it an alternative to Gentoo on some of those machines.

i used Funtoo, Gentoo and Exherbo, give Slackware a try its an outstanding distro, my favorite now

@@dam8976 I will do. I don't think I will ever stop using Gentoo but Slackware on the slower machines would probably work well - I try to avoid the GUI as much as possible for configuration tools, and Slackware keeps it to text files like Gentoo does.

Why in the world would you recompile a slackware package toslackware instead of just compiling it to linux on your computer. What's the reasoning behind that?

Not with you. Recompiling it on Slackware to replace an existing package. Straightforward enough. Not recompiling it for another computer. You may be missing the point here

Because unless you are extremely careful with what you do, nothing breaks a package-based distro quicker than you mixing in your own "compiled from source" stuff amongst all of those packages.
