On the walls in the grand salon (16mins 40 secs) you have a big big problem. You can see that the walls covered in cement are very wet. The salt is coming through. This is a bad sign of significant Moisture in the walls. You can see a perfect salt white stain outline around all the stones covered by the cement - this is very bad and the stone that is behind the cement will be being destroyed by the cement and trapped moisture. Moisture control is very important for the wood panels you are installing. Moisture will destroy the panels. You cannot put the wood panels against those walls without first completely removing the cement render and replacing with a breathable HotLime Render and Lime Plaster. It will take a few months for your walls to dry out once you remove the Cement. If you try to install the wood panels without Removing the cement render - all the wood panels will warp from the moisture and then get wet rot and be destroyed. For the amount of money those panels cost - you must fix the walls before you install them.

I’m sure they’ve seen it but you might want to email the chateau on their website. They talked about getting a structural engineer in before making changes. They also talked about a moisture barrier to protect the paneling some time ago. Definitely email them as they may not see the comment.

I’m so sorry that you lost your Dad. I hope that by watching the advent diaries that you find some comfort and are able to start catching up on the last year and, when you start, it brings you comfort and the feeling of being closer to your Dad. Do ask for grief counselling. It is normal to have those difficulties in focus as part of grief. Don’t “fight” alone ask for help as it will help you immensely. Your comment here is your first step in moving forward. Keep going. Wishing you a peaceful Christmas.

@@shirleyharold1698 Growing up on the coast of Peru, it was extremely humid. Our house didn't have heating...even the walls would be soaked in humidity. One of my little sisters and I, spent every winter in bed with bronchitis. It was a horrible time especially when my sister became terribly ill with bronchial pneumonia. Doctors advised she be sent to live with family who lived in the mountains...an area which was very dry. Thankfully she recovered, but it took a long while. Please Amoury take care...in fact, all of you, until your heating system gets sorted, dress extra warm.

Actually what I would like to see is a floor plan of how the Chateau is today with each room labeled so we can read it. I get turned around too & only have a vague idea of how the first & second floors are laid out (attics too!) I don't mean an architectural rendering just a rough outline doors windows, rooms etc so I can be better oriented. I have no idea after all this time what & where is the La Petit Trianon?
