We've got the majority of the work done on the first floor, we're onto the second.. One day, we'll get to the third. Structural retrofits like this can take a long time to complete, but give the building the structural integrity it needs to stand for decades to come. PSL, LVL, LSL structural material will be used to construct this 3-story home into someone's dream home.

I broke away from the work flow and spent some time with family out in the mountains, it was great getting the kids out in nature and playing around. Snowed us in on day 3 and we had no choice but to stay another night until the roads cleared to let us out.

I changed my 33 year old gas water heater out for a heat pump electric one and updated a good chunk of the old polybutylene pipe in the walls to pex. First major plumbing job of my life. It was slow going, but felt good when it was done.

Trimming out windows in a double stud wall house. 1ft deep window sills. Using acx plywood that's getting stained.

Renos/remodels always take longer than new builds. With new builds seeing progress gives satisfaction the satisfaction with renos doesn't come till the end.

We started construction on our home a few months ago and are getting ready to pour the slab next week. So far almost everything has been DIY by the family! Loving your content Matt. Do you by chance know any steel fabricators in the orange county CA area?

What a nightmare having to replace all of those beams. The project we've been working on is framing out the inside of a 2 story metal building for a local non-profit. The 3 of us are senior citizen volunteers. Nothing more rewarding or satisfying than giving back.

Many years ago I was working on a BIG house in Newport Beach that had a lot of water damage. It was time and material. 6 months on that job. Many days it felt like we weren't making progress.

California is so messed up. It would be cheaper to demo the whole structure but the permitting and other government issues make it more expensive..

Yeah Matt it's a pain in the ass complete reframe except exterior walls with everything out of plumb and level and square it does seem like you haven't done nothing but add to the trash bin but one day like this video it all starts coming together but it's not over

Keep some of it, my shop bench at home is built with reclaimed timber from the winery many years ago. Most of it gets recycled though, only keep cool stuff.

@@MattBangsWoodI’m remodeling a 1950s house and bought an Air Locker nail removal gun. Glad I did because I had to reuse most of the lumber due to it being milled larger than current lumber sizes. The nails were larger too. Put the tip of the gun over the nail and boom, nail shoots out into the garbage cans that I use for saw horses and to catch nails. Shocking that it only cost $50.

@@mrsbradpittiful if an inland home needs to be painted every 7-10 years a coastal home needs it every 5-7 years. I thought the project was also to divide the structure up into more units for rentals.
