I agree. Hollywood can't replicate the simple iconography of Micheal Myer's Shatner mask or Jason's Part 3 Hockey Mask, because they try to hard with too many resources to make a "scary" mask. The mask doesn't make the character scary. The way the actor acts while one's face is concealed is what makes the mask iconic and scary. If you put too much thought into it, you lose the plot of what you're doing.
@jeffhensley99884 жыл бұрын

@pilummurialis64904 жыл бұрын
H4 was a rush job like this, but I think the sideburns work because it makes it look more like a natural face, and it's best scene in Brady's death because the eyes were not cut bigger by then, the drugstore scene also has the hero unconverted and only with the white paint on with a little bit of the white kirk hair done brown
@CartoonManWhoo4 жыл бұрын
Let's be fair though... The only truly awful Halloween movies are H6: The Curse of Michael and the Rob Zombie films. H4's mask is markedly different but it still works for the film. H5's mask, supposedly the same one in continuity to H4 is a joke. But the movie's still good. Ironically, the H6 mask is better than the H5 mask but the movie is shit, so.

There’s a creative genius to it that Tommy Lee Wallace doesn’t even realize. He has the uncanny ability to know when enough is enough. Intelligent man. His comments about using Krylon Appliance White so that lighting could be achieved with natural shadows instead of painting shadows on the mask is brilliant. Next, the very vast majority of people would have never thought about the football shaped eyes to increase the blackness and depth. While he doesn’t say this, it seems that was the intent. What an incredibly menacing looking mask. Now that Shatner replica is worth BIG BUCKS as TLW created it! I WANT IT!! Awesome.

I'm just coming back to this video, AGAIN, and am floored by it. Absolutely floored by it. I'm part of the 1/6 Collector community, and as a big fan of Halloween, so many artists have thrown in their sculpting talents to interpret this mask which always goes for including details that Cundy's work gave to the mask with that impeccable lighting and shot composition. Not to mention the painting of these sculpts, which people throw in blues and grays, and shading. It's really nuts to think that the original mask was just KRYLON APPLIANCE WHITE SPRAY PAINT. All of what we see and think of the mask is done purely by light and shadow, not paint effects. Mind-blowing. Absolutely mindblowing.

This mask does not come close to the hero mask at all, not even the eyecuts are accurate. What you called “experts” have study this mask, overall details, and weathering spots that they try to replicate in exact place. Creating something is easy, replicating something is a difficulty on its own. So if you for example buying a TOTS Kirk and do this on your own, I guarantee it won’t look the same because even in the movie, the mask constantly touched with dirty hands and rubbed all over masks including the eyes, cheeks and mostly the nose. And with this technique, it only rely on how good the base Kirk is not to mention this Kirk Tommy used in this video probably cost $500 far surpasses $59 TOTS Kirk

Using streaks and tips on the hair is another reason why the black wore orf during the movie...its not like spray paint, its only a temporary hair color. Thats why Tommy's hand got so dirty-lol! It washes out with soap and water.... i had the same problem when i experimented with it-lol

Nick, could you ever do a "Tommy Lee Wallace" job??
@TheMaskPit4 жыл бұрын
@@ryanhunter130 i could, but its not cost effective to go thru the process of making a kirk, just to rip it apart-lol
@seanadamson72604 жыл бұрын
You totally should do the same technique on your channel

Now, that’s impressive. Always great to see Sean and Tommy do some cool stuff together.

If you spray a Kirk mask at a downward angle carefully, you can achieve shading without trying.. it’s more like highlighting high points. Hope that makes sense. Dull it down with a quick spray to blend

Lighting and rubbing the brown from the hair from handling is what did it, the white was also wearing off

Done that myself from a post i seen on Michael myers.net and it worked perfectly and looks like the paint is wearing away

That mask is 100% better than the masks used in 4,5,6,7 and 8

This was very special to watch...it just shows as well you don’t need over the top attention to making a mask scary as long as the mask mold is spot on the paint will only add to the creep factor as well as cutting the eye holes etc
@seanpatrick52564 жыл бұрын
I would LOVE for him to make me a Myers mask.

Quite amazing how such a simplistic mask can be fairly scary.

Imagine making a mask for like 8 dollars in 30 minutes for it to end of being one of the most iconic thing ever. What a feeling

Amazing how it transforms so much just by cutting out the eyes

It’s all about those eyes in terms of Michaels images.
