It's nice to see a younger person who is interested in classic cars.

Just what I need, I'm about to start to refurb my roadster and your videos have shown me that it's not as scary as I first thought, great stuff.

Tip, use self tapping screws to temporary fasten panels and try the door on before any welding. Screws will help pull or push the panels into place for a better fit. Simply remove screws afterwards and weld the holes up.

Philip Knowles yes I could have done that. I had to have assistance when I fitted the door as there was so much adjustment and with the weight of the door it is quite difficult.

Hi there it would be wise to use card board to make a stencil and then cut it out of sheet steel....I always use empty my cereal boxes,and if you need to put a curve in any panel you can purchase a shrinker and stretcher, and some large magnets to align and hold the panels but you are doing a great job

Nice work. Don't know how you keep so patient with all the check fit - trim - rinse & repeat going on, but the result is looking good, so worth the effort. :-)

Thank you, I can't wait to have it on the road. However, there are a few more bits to do!

David B beautiful colour. Is yours still stock or have you added any modifications?
@David-wy9jl7 жыл бұрын
Pretty much stock except for 15 inch chrome wire wheels which act as a mini overdrive (about 10% lower rpm). Currently doing minor rust repair in the dog leg.
@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
David B They do look really nice, a bit more sophisticated. I found that when replacing the dog leg it has so many areas where moisture can get in.

Old English white is pretty nice too.

Were you using the wire welder without gas the entire time? I had such a hard time with blow through on the thin stuff. Good video, looking forward to see the next. Steve from the US

I'm just going by what i've heared, but i'm pretty sure if your replacing the inner sill you really should brace the car to stop it folding in slightly. Good series though, i'm just about to do sills on my mk1 MR2

Question bought an MGB GT 1979 , the radiator has no fill cap it’s on the expansion tank only where is the best place to top up the water after flushing the system ? Any help appreciated
@mrnice300016 жыл бұрын
did you put a temporary steel brace across the door gap ? Always a good idea so that the doorss will fit and open and close properly.
@RebuildthePast6 жыл бұрын
Brian Davies I spoke to many people who had done it before and MG specialists. They said that as the GT was over engineered structurally as they just added a roof to the roadster there isn’t any need to reinforce it. My door fitted perfectly when I was finished

Hi glad to hear that everything worked out to plan. I noted that it is a GT but just wondered if there would be any movement along the floorpan. I'm very nervous about rocker/sill replacement because I had a guy replace them on my Alfa Spider some years ago with the result that the doors would not open...

What is the gauge or thickness of the sheet metal you use. Please pardon if you have described this before. Nice work!

Which tool did you use for removal of the spot welds ? There are so many to chose from ☹️
@RebuildthePast5 жыл бұрын
I actually used the draper one. www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-57624-8-Inch-16-Inch-Cutter/dp/B0002GUMF0 you do need to make sure your centre punch is deep enough though

I'm doing the same car, I'm currently welding under the passenger wing, it's like the triangle bit. I'm struggling to do it with my Stick welder, where did you get that welder from im only 15 so don't have the biggest budget
@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
it's a Sealey 130 mig. My one uses gas and I would definitely recommend getting a gas one and it's also great how you can change the power and wire feed speed.

Rebuild the Past cheers I'll take a look at them, really loving this series, literally spend most my days waiting for a new episode. Im also sort of using this for instructions.
