The drain from my heater box (Tom’s knob) has rotted off and bottom of the heater box has rotted out. We now get water in the footwell. Also someone filled the heater box fresh air flap with expanding foam! Are you needing to repair yours as I’d be interested to see how you do it.

It's funny because I also have a B GT, I'm also replacing my sills, I should have the same age as you, and I'm doing it in the same conditions with a very small garage and a cheap welder. And it's still good to have some of your advices

I have just spent my entire afternoon watching all the videos. Very informative and well presented. I own a 67 roadster and am now considering adding a GT to my fleet! Keep up the good work.

Well done mate. I did this to my MGBGT twice! over the 19 years I had it. Now live in Sydney and have a 20 year old rust free MGF VVC that I’m working on. Great work.

David B I'm really glad they're useful. I will be putting up a video on the dog leg section next week.

Regarding the rear triangle piece, when I purchased mine, there were 2 available, one from BMH and the other was an aftermarket, so I ordered both. The aftermarket fit was poor and the BMH one was much better. David
@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
David B thanks, I thought the aftermarket one wouldn't be that good so I ordered the bmh one but that was also a paint haha

Love your series. I have a 1971 B that is need of restoration and your enthusiasm and confidence have made me motivated to take on the restoration. Thanks for sharing the process with us. How long did it take you to learn how to weld and what would you recommend for someone wanting to learn?

Awesome

Do you clean off the “weld through” primer before welding? Apparently you should!

Rebuild the Past why not :-) are you on the mg forums/pages on Facebook?
@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
Anthony Fuller yes, on the ones on fb. I've been looking at the mini superchargers, apparently they are the same as what moss supply

Thanks for the info on the welder have one outer sill to do and need to replace both rear wing beading plus a both sides have rotted on the rear deck wear it meats beading .some one has already replaced floor all sill section on drivers side in 1990 then car sat outside since project stalled that's when rear deck has rotted out plus all boot floor was replaced but corner has rotted out while it's been sat with water collecting front near side inner wing needs some repairs on rail top and other
@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
I had to repair where the beading met at the top of the rear wings. I found it quite difficult as the gt falls down and then rises for the rear pillar. Hopefully you will find yours easier. Are you going to use a panel from Moss or make your own?
@richardelder18067 жыл бұрын
Rebuild the Past I'm going to try and make the panel my self as on the roadster you have to buy a complete rear wing including the bead and a section of the top decking up to the the corner of the boot lid .I will buy the bedding as it is sold by the foot at the mgbhive did you post a video of when you were doing the repair to wing and bead as I have only watched the latter video of the sills so far
@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
Richard Elder that’s what I had to do. Took ages but the beading was originally spot welded on so I’m using a 2 part adhesive similar to jb weld
@richardelder18067 жыл бұрын
Yes had a word with a well known mgb restorer and that's what he said they do grind out the beading and fit by glueing in the new piece think the panel will be ok as it's going to be the flat top of the deck with a flange hanging down at side of beading should be able to weld it from inside the boot and through a hole someone uses cut for a speaker just behind b post back

@RebuildthePast7 жыл бұрын
Diesel Bushcraft none at all, the door gaps have been great. I contacted an MG specialist before and they said unless you take the step sill out as well with the gt there is enough strength in the body. Thanks for watching

the bottom of the a post orignaly had return lips that sat flat on to the top of outer sill, you have cut them off
