Look at Donald Trump. But he pales into insignificance compared to Darwin! He fooled the whole world! Some one needs to come up with a way of tracing human ancestry that doesn't rely on digging in the dirt. Something with a solid scientific basis that will reveal our origins. Hence, those classroom supplements, well aware of how woefully inadequate American education is and how it's failed everyone, even teachers. @Joe Andersen The Bible gets any authority or value (literary excepted) from God, so until someone demonstrates that God exists, using it as evidence for anything is pointless. As to using “Creation” you first need to show that “Creation” (as a deliberate, purposeful act) took place, then demonstrate that it was your choice of deity that did said creation. None of these apologists have read the original Greek. They're all running on the English translations, and in the English translations the plain reading is of this, current tense, generation, not a far off undisclosed generation. Jesus wouldn't have said it it Greek anyway, he'd have said it in Aramaic. But as no one would have copied down verbatim what he'd said it's a moot point anyway. We're just shy of 2000 years since Jesus would have ascended. That's plenty of time. What's the point in not coming back in that time? The most likely explanation for nothing happening is there's nothing to happen.

I visited the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda in the summer of 1980. I saw many mountain gorillas. It was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I'd like to ask this creationist why I saw huge mountain gorillas walking upright for a bit. This was to get leaves from the bamboo trees around them. While their walk is certainly not as neat as human's it's walking, plain and simple. Why do Gorillas, Chimps, and others care for their children in a very similar way that we do. If a mother gorilla runs out of milk, other mothers feed the child. If a mother is injured, other gorillas take care of the kid(s) until the mother gets better. If the mother dies, the kids will never go hungry. If a mother is in a group that loses their dominant silverback, that mother will have no problem at all in joining another group. They will always accept a mother without a group. If a group has one mother that dies, other groups will make sure that the kid is taken care of. How is that NOT like humans? Heck, that's more than many humans will do.

Creationists are intellectually lazy. To them, everything needing to be known is written in their Holy Book. No new knowledge required or accepted. Quite right. Their strongest held beliefs are dictated by tribal ideology. Giving these up would not just be an individual personal loss, but a loss of their tribal (group) identity… one of the most central aspects of human psychology. Rather than relinquish their tribal beliefs, they will first relinquish their commitment to rational evidence-based thinking (which is subsidiary to tribal commitments) and then use what remains of their rational thinking capacity to create (pseudo rational) rationalization narratives.
@MendTheWorld

@@philipfarnam6013 I disagree. Many people accept creationism uncritically, just as many (most) evolutionists do. This is why a rhetorically skilled creationist can often easily expose the lack of a sound, valid understanding of evolution in people who accept evolution as true. Faith-based belief in evolution is not fundamentally different from faith-based belief in divine creation. What DOES differentiate them is that evolution is ultimately based on sound empirical evidence, whether or not people are actually aware of or understand that evidence, whereas creationism is ultimately based on a simplistic interpretation of The Good Book.

For many people, belief in divine creation is a matter of “group epistemology”. Rejecting the group belief is tantamount to rejecting the group itself, which is something many people find impossible to do, as their beliefs very much constitute “who they are”. Moreover, insular groups having tightly held beliefs, as is common in the South, don’t cotton to traitors in their midst, and many people are justifiably terrified of being rejected by their community. Thus, debates on topics such as evolution, climate change, mask mandates, election fraud, etc tend _not_ to be based on unbiased evidence, but on rationalization narratives. It’s a very difficult problem that can lead to very bad feelings, so use caution. It requires some acquired skills to know how to handle it. (-Former resident of Homewood).

Most educated people are aware that we humans are the outcome of nearly four billion years of Darwinian selection but many insist that we are somehow the culmination of that process. The sun, however, is less than halfway through its lifespan. It will not be primates like us that watch our star’s demise six billion years from now or be snuffed out from the Milky Way galaxy’s collision with the Andromeda galaxy in 4.5 billion. Any creatures that exist on Earth then will be as different from us as we are from bacteria and amoebae. (paraphrase from Martin Rees, British cosmologist, astrophysicist and Astronomer Royal.)

Early in my study of creation science, around 1981 I saw a televised debate on CBN between Roger Awbrey and creationist Henry Morris (as I recall). Awbrey compared the pelvis of a chimpanzee, a hominid, and a human and did so from two different angles. From one angle the hominid pelvis looked more chimp than human, but from the other angle it looked almost identical to the human pelvis (and extremely different from the chimp). Morris "rebutted" by focusing on that first angle and declared the hominid pelvis to be "100% ape". Even when Awbrey repeatedly pointed to the other prit-near human angle, Morris ignored that evidence and kept referring solely to the less human angle. That was my first exposure to creationists in the wild (ie, seeing them in action rather than just reading about their claims). It told me everything I needed to know about them and their total lack of honesty. And over the past four decades, repeated encounters with and observation of many other creationists in the wild have only confirmed and reinforced that very first lesson.

A carpenter needs to rebuild a collapsed doorframe, and the only way to rebuild the doorframe properly is so that it makes the shape of a door and that the door actually opens and closes without issue. The creationists are crying foul because they want their rectangular door in the shape of a triangle even though the pieces of the door frame aren’t long enough to make it. That about right? The tricky bit for apologetics is also not similarities, but random appearances of completely different anatomy like a few species in the lobster and crab family having blue blood or one small group of mammals not suffering from the defunct generation of Vitamin C in the body. What in the name of Legos could have made god RANDOMLY find such bits and pieces and suddenly decide "this time i want to do something different". And even that is just snarkyness. The bible NEVER says god decided how to make the Animals, there was no planning, no decisions, he spoke them into being and made the elements water, earth and air bring them "forth"... The complete creation cretin assumption that god is an engineer that thoroughly constructed every living being to perfection isn't carried by their own creation account and only half assedly supported if you pull a few sparse poetical verses about "knitting in the womb" out of context.

@@TheJuggtron I have a cousin who’s a master electrician. Switched careers in his mid 40s. There’s a lot of schoolwork that goes along with that as well as practical experience from working in the field. I personally don’t care what someone believes as long as they’re skilled enough to do the job. Scientologists, on the other hand, and specifically Sea Org members, don’t get the education required for an apprenticeship, let alone higher levels of certification. In Scientology they believe that you can do anything based on some sort of “ancestral memory” from the multitude of lives you lived before your current incarnation. There are many stories out there from people who escaped from that cult who are missing fingers (or worse), have been electrocuted, and so on, because they were forced to do a job, and work with tools, they had absolutely no training or experience with. So would I hire a “Big Wave Dave” to run the wiring into my circuit breaker? As long as he’s licensed and bonded. You’re not gonna get that with a Scientologist. That’s why so many of them go into sales jobs after leaving. They have some degree of experience with that field from their time in that cult.

@@dr.floridamanphd scientologists are just as whacko as the god botherers, its scary if they hand out their own eletrical qualifications, rather than state mandated ones. As for sparkies, I've known some that were qualified but still had ambitions exceeding talent - wiring motors backwards, not labelling cables in complicated boards etc.

@@TheJuggtron, when it comes to “whackos”‘ I would argue Scientologists take the cake. Just purely based on their beliefs since they don’t technically have any form of scripture. Just the writings of Hubbard but most of what he wrote for his “church” are policies. I’ve seen guys wire electric motors backwards too. Especially if they’re working blind or on a system they haven’t done before. But to say fundamentalists are just as nutty as Scientologists? Do a deep dive in to what’s out there from former Scientologists. They’re a lot more fanatical than the evangelical right.

A while ago, I was watching one of Aron Ra's videos and had to stop it to get something to eat. When I came back to the video, the first thing Aron said was (I am paraphrasing) that he was extremely disheartened because he learned about a father who was very proud that he had brainwashed his kid into believing humans didn't evolve from monkeys. The kid would go around saying something to the effect of "I ain't no monkey cause I don't eat no bananas!". Ironically, I looked down and realized I had just gotten a banana.to eat! I was laughing hysterically and said to myself, "I guess that just proves I am a monkey!". I guess that is also why my Dad used to love climbing trees like a monkey to help people cut them down when needed.

Funniest thing: I had a creationist answer a question about why humans and apes were so similar with the response that "There are only so many ways for God to make an animal, so there's are bound to be similarities." I asked him why God couldn't just make a vertebrate with six limbs, since there isn't anything biologically impossible about that, and even stupid humans could come up with the concept of, say, dragons. He didn't even understand my point.

@lederereddy
@lederereddy 2 жыл бұрын
@@markdavies2115 Dinosaurs and dragons are the same things. Dinosaurs have always lived with man. No one would even doubt it if it weren't for all of the propaganda about them dying off millions of years ago. If you have an open and scientific mind, then all you have to do is read several history books that are from 2000 plus years ago to see plenty of literal accounts of men dealing with dinosaurs. The only difference is, they didn't use that word since it wasn't even made up until around Dearwin's time. They called them dragons. And the descriptions of a land dinosaur, Behemoth, and a sea dinosaur, Leviathan, can be found in the later chapters of Job. Lions and leopards are in the Bible. But not house cats, that I know of. But that is part of their mystic. They try very hard to be aloof.
