This video documents the procedure to recover a Bluetti Solar generator in the case where the battery meter has become inaccurate. Symptoms of this are generally: charging taking too long, charging not taking long enough, or battery percentage dropping dramatically during discharging.
This procedure works on all current production (Dec-2022) Bluetti units, including the modular solar generators.
Very specifically, it works on Bluetti's AC50, EB3A, EB55, EB70, EB70S, AC200P, AC200Max, AC300, AC500, EP500, and EP500Pro. It also works on the B230, B300, and B300S batteries.
It is likely this same procedure will continue to work on future models as well, but I do not have direct confirmation of that from Bluetti.

I have owned two of these Bluetti devices. Without going into irrelevant, lengthy details, the first one failed completely and they replaced it with the one I have now. It has done better--meaning it has not failed so far--but this rapid-discharge problem has been happening for months. It is also different from the conditions in the video, so I saved this video thinking I might need it one day, and here is that day. My AC200Max works fine. I use it to charge electronic devices and batteries and to power an iPad clock overnight whilst I sleep. Except on rare occasions, it is not used during the day. (I am currently staying with a daughter.) The issue has been the discharge. It slowly makes its way down the scale as the nights go by, but then one day, without any advance indication, it will fall from, say 70 per cent (noted after turning the DC Off) to zero that night. Yesterday, I performed the reset process. I started with an almost fully charged unit and used a portable fan my daughter had stashed away for the winter. It draws enough power to push the process along, but not enough to cause any overheating problem. The discharge took the entire day, so when the device turned itself completely off--no green Start light showing--I plugged it back into a wall outlet. Several (sleepy) hours later, the battery was at 100% and the brick LED light was green. Hopefully, that will fix this problem; I am still not a fan of Bluetti and would not replace it, but it is what I have now, and I want it to work properly. UPDATE (Later the same day): I allowed the unit to turn off by itself with no cables attached; it showed 100% and I did not use it all day. When I turned it on later to charge my devices, the battery level showed 63%...without it even having been on or in use. Bluetti does not make a reliable device.

Hi, it's a bit of a shame that there are so many different faults with the power bank, they're actually good when they're running, I have ac200p and I've obviously been lucky, I just have a fault with my watt meter, it measures too much (300 watts) when I only have 30 watts on the ac out I have a watt meter on which also shows 30 watts but at 1500w it shows correctly I have found that if you press soc in the middle of the screen that you can see the power consumption on the battery and volts as well and so calculate the wattage my user uses on dc out no load (52v*0.1A=5.2w) and AC out (52v*0.3A=15.6w) sometimes more/less it's probably BMS running in the background, if you go into settings and BMS maintenance and press 5-10 times in the upper left corner, volt information appears on each cell and they should preferably be the same 2.5v-3.5v normal 3v-3.45v (3v=10%. 3.26=50% . 3.45=100%) during charging you will be able to see that the cell reaches 3.65v and shortly after charging will finish then the BMS will handle the rest of the cells so they are equal in voltage there are 16 cells (40Ah) in series 55v*40A=2200wh.

Great information. I have an AC 200 Max and two expansion batteries. I just got this so it's brand new. But I'm starting a file of different things that could go wrong with it and your video is going to be the number one on the list in case it happens to me. The first thing I did when I got it I upgraded the firmware which at first didn't work. It actually bricks the system at first. I had to try 15 times to install the new firmware and finally it worked. That was brand new out the package I almost cried because I thought my $4,500 had gone down the drain instantly.

I ran my AC200P to zero by accident and it killed the display so Bluetti sent me another unit under warranty. I was told that the new unit has been reprogrammed so that if you run it to zero this will not happen again. I love my Bluetti and have used it a lot for my RV. It makes camping a lot easier. Thanks for the video.

Excellent video. I got the AC300 and the manual recommends to fully discharge and recharge the battery every 6 months. And this actually applies to all lithium based battery meters. For example, if you have a laptop, and always use it on AC power, you may end up with the Windows battery indicator telling you: Battery 90%, plugged in, not charging. Actually, the battery is full, butt he meter is off. Solution is the same. Unplug the charger. Use the notebook off the battery until the battery is empty and the laptop shuts down. Then plug in the charger and charge it to 100%.

Thanks for the video was just about to return my Bluetti and seen your video. I have only had it for 2 months and use it everyday it has about 50-60 cycles on the life of the battery so far. The last week or so after running a very light load of 20 watts the battery meter dropped from 100% down to 20% in only 4 hours. I was like what the heck is going on. I bought a killawatt meter to check the capacity and sure enough it was the battery meter out of calibration. After about 80-100 watt usage the meter dropped 80%. The last 20% of the meter ran 550 watts lol. I have the eb70 that has 716w/h capacity. I confirmed with killawatt meter that the battery was fine I got about 630 watt hours out of the battery which is about 90% efficiency rate. Thanks for the video after doing the re calibration it works perfect again.

Your instruction sets are very helpful and appreciated. As another viewer already mentioned, Bluetti recommends cycling the battery every 6 months (AC300 manual) presumably for those who have a non-permanent install of this equipment for emergency use only. Although they don't specifically say to run it down until the unit turns off, that seems like the best option and, thanks to your video, a very good reason to have a T-500 adaptor on hand.

Thank you for your great explanation! I just got a new EB3A. It was delivered with 67%, I charged it and while I waited I applied a firmware update. At this point it was at 99% - and after the firmware update it fell down to 67% again. I wondered and was worried about eventually "overcharging" the battery. But your video has calmed me down again. I will now try to drain the battery completely and recharge it to get the charge indicator right again.

Jeff, thank you for all your videos, it is VERY EVIDENT you know what you are talking about. I NEED HELP BADLY and Bluetti services are not responding. This is apparently their response to all customers, based on comments I have read from customers who have purchased their units. I purchased a Bluetti AC500 and (2) B300S. A family member hooked up cords from battery to battery then to AC500. Everything was working, batteries charged slowly (solar panels); and when fully charged I did a test of the generators/batteries. Using a small radiant oil heater, and heavy duty cord, I ran the heater, The heater had settings so started on lowest (did fine) then went to medium setting (did fine), then went to highest setting (did fine). Watts on the heater ranged 600-1500 based on setting. Based on this video, that was #! mistake, that I have learned from you. The batteries were used up, alarm on AC500 was sounding, and after several times, punched on screen .buttons trying to stop noise. Saw the AC button and thought I am not using AC so turned that off. Finally I was able to turn off screen/unit and now it will not turn back on. I have plugged it into a wall unit using the cord provided by Bluetti, and plugged it into the AC500. And after a while, it still will not turn on. I assume that because I turned off AC button it is not accepting a charge. So I am at a COMPLETE loss as to what to do, to get this thing started!!! I am NOT a "techy" person. Barely can turn on computer and cell phone! Any help you can send to me will be greatly appreciated!!! Bluetti is not helping people, will not recommend their products to anyone because of lack of customer support. Thanks!!!

Turning off the AC on the screen only turns off the output, not the input. That won't affect the charging. I am guessing that you completely discharged the batteries to the point the head unit can't turn on, as Jeff described. Try charging one of the batteries slightly from another source to get enough power to turn on the head unit.

Great video! My AC200MAX dropped from 95% to 0% in no time under small load of phone and power bank charging. I think this is after days of charging it with unreliable solar (winter time now in Europe) and discharging with AC load (dehumidifier) as well as other light usage. I own the unit for about half a year, and have two B300 extensions in the mix. The BMS must have got confused and lost track of the correct state of charge. I need to recalibrate the whole stack, but will wait for the second T500, since I have no grid and will run it on inverter generator. I think the manual recommends to discharge the unit completely every 3 or 6 months.

I use my ac200p in my campervan and, since I am always charging (solar) and dicharging ( fridge, ac unit) at the same time, bluetti reccomends running it down to 0 and fully charging once per month. I have been doing that for the 6 months I have been on the road and it seems to fix any discrepancies on my meter...like dropping from 100% to 70 % in 5 minutes with not much load. Thats very interesting. I dont have a bluetti but I do have a hyundai which is 1040 wh and often mucks up the battery display as you have described here. I will try discharging and recharging as you demonstrate. I have discharged and recharged before but didnt realise it had to be constant and complete for both those operations. Its quite possible I have never actually got it reset due to not running it down in one go and then filling it up in one go.

I had my one go from (an indicated) 61% to 0% while turned off overnight. A very cold night, mind you, I thought that was the reason. Question: How do you know when the unit has shut itself off? Thank you so very much for the video. You give a clear description of the problem and then how to resolve it. Well, I have this problem. I tried it but unfortunately, it didn't work. I will try the discharge/charge process again. Not sure where I went wrong, except I didn't do a "steady" discharge. Will do so on my next effort. I had used Christmas lights because that is what I have available. When the lights went out, the battery displayed "0" readings.

Well this kinda worked for my AC200P. It at least lasts longer than it did. I'm on my 5th attempt. Last time I just kept turning it back on after it would turn off until it wouldn't turn on anymore. Now charging it from that state to see if that does anything. Gave up on customer service. Haven't heard anything from them since January and that was just to tell me they were going away for holiday. Happy I paid $2k for a paperweight.

Thanks for the video. Mine seems to be fine except at either end. Seems to charge to 69% then goes to 100% in a few minutes. Then if I have a decent load ( 600 watts or so) once it gets to 15% it goes to zero in a few minutes. (Normally I don’t go below 32%) I use daily and only charge on solar so it makes sense it’s drifted a bit over time I’m hoping this helps and it’s not a better issue. Thanks again.

I think solar could work, just do it over a good, sunny day to ensure as stable charge as possible. Perhaps it isn't ideal, because the input will fluctuate, but should be sufficient if done frequently.

I have AC200MAX with two B300 battery extensions and no grid access, but supplement it with Hyundai 2kW inverter power generator running on petrol. It seems recalibration will be a frequent weekend project! I have mixed feelings about it, but it isn't too complicated.

Hey thanks a lot for the video I'm not sure if it's because I have a European unit but it's brand new and I noticed that once it gets 0 it quits giving out power to any device. Therefore I don't see how I could drain it until the LCD totally shuts down. I've only done a few Cycles on it what I've noticed is once it gets down to about 20% it suddenly shuts down. I'm using a industrial extension cord connected from the battery to the dehumidifier so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this overall I am happy with the purchase as long as it keeps working what I'm thinking to do is just to shut it off or rather unplug the dehumidifier as it reaches 20% because I don't want to damage the compressor with the sudden power loss and then maybe I can use the wireless charger for a few more percent anyway I'm not a electrical engineer but I read on some lithium-ion battery website that it's actually better for the batteries long-term not to completely drain them to zero. In fact I've started this procedure on my tablets and cell phones what I do is when it reaches 45% I charge them back up to about 85% instead of going from 0 or very low percentage to 100% thanks for listing that curve chart though I think that helps me explain why I suddenly lost power after 20% thanks again

Thanks for the video, Jeff! As an AC300 owner (with two B300 units) that is off-grid, I have an issue with the two batteries becoming unequal, and diverging in charge. This could possibly be a calibration issue with one or both. I tried to perform your procedure a while back, before watching this video, but didn't completely deplete the batteries so the head unit shut off (just until it showed 0%. In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't as I don't have a T500 adaptor!). I have tried routing the cables in different ways, tried switching their relationship with the head unit at night when the unit is off, to no avail. Being off-grid it is an inconvenience to equalize them separately with a generator only to watch them drift apart over the course of a week or two. Do you have any suggestions about keeping the battery modules equalized?
@st8kout961
@st8kout961 10 ай бұрын
You don't need the T500 should the battery refuse to connect to the AC300. Any way to get it to 1% will do it, such as connecting it to another 12v battery or cigarette lighter (with the motor running), and he didn't say it but a solar panel might do it, plugged directly into the B300 with the provided cable (check the panel and battery spec first; do go over the Voc rating. For my B300s it's 60 Voc.

Thank you for your videos. Unfortunately, I must be missing something. I've tried recalibrating my AC200Max and B230 several times using the method you mentioned for the AC200Max by itself. In my case, the AC200Max and B230 are connected throughout the process. I run them both to 0 and shut themselves down, then recharge using the T500. I've tried recharging with the AC charger connected to the AC200Max sometimes and other times via the B230 but neither approach has worked for me. The batteries start off at 100 but then start diverging so they get up to 30-35% difference in SOCs (e.g. B1=65% and B2=32%. Then they start converging again as they approach zero. At several different charge levels, I've looked at the voltages on the individual cells and they are almost always identical - only differing by 0.01 volts usually (e.g. 3.22 v versus 3.23 v on B1 versus B2). It's very annoying. In your experience, what do you think is happening here? Do I need to do the calibration on each battery separately and disconnected? The B230 has its own BMS but I'm not sure how the two BMS's work together. I was assuming the BMS on the AC200Max was the master one trying to balance out the charge on both batteries. I have BMS v1017.04 on the main unit and v 1011.09 on the B230. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again for your videos.

I've done the recalibration a few times, most recently after adding two more batteries which caused it to go out of whack again. One battery goes into STANDBY at 90% after the other 4 batteries are at 100%. To push it to 100% I have to add Grid Power to solar charging and then it will instantly jump to 100%. Sadly the calibration didn't change that. If I buy one of those chargers do you think recharging that battery separately will fix it?

Thank you for the video. After updating the firmware my Eb3A was acting strange.The power station's battery when from 99% to 35% in 60 seconds and the update of firmware stated it was successful. Although I thought this rather strange, I then proceeded to charge the battery and for 5 minutes or so it would go from 0 to 65 watts of AC input mostly 0 watts, then all of a sudden when it got to 40% it jumped to 100% and the fan came on roaring for 3 or 4 minutes. None of this sounds normal to me, have I got a faulty power station or the battery needs to be recalibrated? I discharged to 0% with a fan at 71 watts and then for 20 minutes kept turning it on then charged it to 100%. Does this sound right?

EDIT so after turning it on to use it following the very rapid charge, the battery shows 0% So it drained rapidly to zero. Took 40 minutes to charge to 100%. Then when I turned it on was showing 0% again.

Just a quick question why don't they have it so that the firmware will not allow it to discharge itself to empty keep in at least 10 per cent of the battery, so by doing that they will be solving a problem .

Hello Jeff and thank you for this insightful video. As I write, I am attempting to discharge an AC200Max + two B230s using an 800 watt Handy heater connected to AC. I have two questions for you regarding this calibration procedure: 1. For the sake of graceful calibration, should I make sure to drain all three units independently even if the AC200Max might shut off first? In doing so, I'd just use a compact 100-watt inverter connected to the barrel connector of each B230 for example. 2. Once all three devices have died, can I reconnect the T500 to the AC200Max and expect all three to eventually wake up and assume charge will evenly spread across all three or should I treat the AC200Max like a head unit and perform three separate charges? Thank you, Denis

I think you can discharge the whole stack at once, as the station should discharge the extensions first, but I would charge independently all units, disconnected from each other. Otherwise the power will be leaking into other units. I think discharge process isn't as important. You need to hit known point, that is low voltage cut off, and then charge to the max level, so the software can count the charge. Charging with solar might be good enough if the day is sunny and there are no clouds, but won't be as clean as T500.

The recommended operating temperature range for the AC200 MAX i is 14F to 149F. The Lithium Iron Phosphate battery chemistry prevents charging at and below 32F. This makes it possible to operate the AC200 MAX below the minimum charging temperature. Is there any way to display the cell temperature of the battery unit during operation? For cold-weather outdoor enthusiasts or for users who forgot to pull the Bluetti from "cold storage", the cell temperature display would be helpful.

I agree, it would be nice to have a display of the core battery temperature. Bluetti has not exposed this information in the UI. You could contact them and ask if it can be exposed. The system has to know this information, so in theory it could be made available.

Again, excellent work and thanks so mcuh for going into this! I have had this problem more than once, but it had fixed itself in between. Now I know what to do. Is it possilbe that this will happen every time now because solar charging is so unreliable? Also, an unrelated question to which you of all people might know the answer: I take it that AC200Max is not supposed to be charged below 0 degrees celsius / 32 Fahrenheit (?). If solar is connected to it, it won't turn off and will automatically draw from the panels. If the temperature in my van goes below the critical 0 /32, will it then avoid charging automatically? Or do I have to make sure to unplug the solar if there is a risk it will get to be below 0 /32 in my van?

I have not experienced the problem first-hand, but I've seen a YT video where the content provider's AC200 MAX reported error code 041, which is a BMS temperature issue. I can't remember if the unit refused to operate or if it stopped charging. In any case, the AC200 MAX was not permanently damaged, it just needed a warm-up :) The video was shot at a remote location at the provider's cabin during winter.

Look at what charging mode i was, standard... Tried different ones nothing changed.. then it finally moved to 1.2kw in turbo... and it went back to 285 watts. I put it in stamdard nothing changed so i let it go and when it reached about 97% it went back to 1.2 for a few seconds and went down to 285 watts again. Never been able to reach 100%, still charging stucked at 99% it still going berzerk at the first charge jumping from 285 watts to 1.2kw to 552 watts wtf... @pavel9652

Don't drain it completely! When is hits the low voltage level at 0% it cuts off the AC/DC loads. Less than that might hurt batteries and you might have difficult time starting the unit and having it accept the charge at all. I think it will switch off eventually when you leave it on at 0%, but it is another safety measure.

I have an AC200 MAX and is VERY slow to charge form my Off Grid TREK 220 watt solar blanket. The owner of Off Grid TREK for the SAME results whereas his similar EcoFlow unit charges FAR faster. Q: I there a BLUETTI software fit for this problem?? (Or am I just stuck with a slow charging unit?) UPDATE: I failed to read the BLUETTI manual thoroughly. Once I did I selected the "PV" (PhotoVotaic) charging mode and the unit charged nicely from my 120 watt Off Grid TREK solar blanket. On a hunting trip in Nevada it worked great, running a small cooler all day and charging up BOTH my e-mountain bike's batteries. Although an expensive system (Off Grid TREK 220 watt solar blanket -> $1,700. plus BLUETTI AC200 MAX -> $1,200.) it is totally reliable and requires no loud, stinky gas powered generator or lots of cans of flammable, stinky gasoline. Also it's a great home emergency power supply in extended power outages.

That means I have to run a gas generator for way to long. Any ideas what I should do?
@WaveformScience
@WaveformScience Жыл бұрын
It sounds like resetting the battery meter would make it more accurate in your case. It is an issue that the calibration procedure takes the unit out of service during the process, but there is also maintenance needed on other generator technologies that requires shutting down the unit. I don't know of any generator based on any type of technology that is designed for 100% long term duty cycle with only a single generation unit. Even commercial power plants shut down every now and again for maintenance.

@@deeprootslandscaping4499 I think a rental generator for a day would probably be a better option in your situation. Just make sure to get an inverter type. Hondas tend to work. Again, all power generators require occasional maintenance. You can reduce the maintenance interval by charging it all the way up to 100% once a month or so. If you truly need 100% “no down time” power then I would suggest a second unit as a backup standby. Critical infrastructure like hospitals use this method. They go so far as to make sure the backup unit is made by a different company than the primary so that the failure modes are different between the two units.

Too much waffle in this video - on my second Bluetti with the problems identified in this video, first one worse than the second. Main comment on this recalibration is that it happens too frequently, which implies that the monitoring of the state of charge is not good enough i.e there is a design flaw in the monitoring system. The product is meant to be used where there is no access to mains to recharge at a steady state - if this happens when you are using it remotely, then you have an expensive very heavy brick. Have watched many videos on testing of self build systems, and none of these builds exhibit the issue raised by Bluetti users.
