I don't get Jacks points on not relating to a character because they have a different skin colour. Do a lot of people feel the same way as him?

In the last few years there's been a resurgence of interest about increasing diversity on screen, which has come from the progressive left. The rationale is that groups who are perceived as oppressed can have positive role models in the media to inspire them to rise in rank in society. Jack has presumably heard this line of thought before, and explores it. He may be sympathetic to it, but he also notices that he is still able to empathize with someone with a different ethnicity and social background if the story telling is done well.

Eh, wasn't Disney's Little Mermaid made in the late 80's - long after Nazi-Disney's death? (And had singing fishes and stuff) I think You guys are thinking about Hans Christian Andersen's original fairy tale from the 19th century.

The whole conversation of Get Out made me think about after I first saw it in which I kept telling people I loved it even though the weakest part of the movie is probably the horror. Especially since to me, the movie felt like a TV episode and not so much a movie (which really isn't a negative).
