Regarding M's attitude towards Bond's womanizing habits, I think it was less "Eh, I don't care anymore" and more "We need to make use of everything at our disposal to prevent global conflict." I'm reminded of Casino Royale, where M is like "Bond, you're extremely reckless, but you're also the best card player in MI6, so I guess you should be the one to go to Montenegro and take care of Le Chiffre."

The BMW 750iL Bond drives is an automotive icon in its own right with its great design, quality and state-of-the-art technology. I would never call it a “family car”, it is a luxury sedan, a business vehicle with an impressive V-12 engine. To be honest, TND is a very entertaining Bond movie, although my go-to Brosnan movie is Die Another Day (I’m convinced his “great” Bond film was yet to come; is a four-way-tie). Worth mentioning, Dutch Bond Fan is one of the greatest Bond channels; the narrative, opinions and perspectives. I think they could have cast someone else in the role and come out much better... someone that would have been recognizable or generated more of a connection with the audience, to make her death more meaningful and the feelings between her and Bond more real. As it is, I don't think anybody really connected with her emotionally or with her death, or Bond's feelings for her and about her... Well, her background in computers could have gotten her to work for the Carver Media Group in some tech department after seperating from Bond. Elliot would later end up falling for her, and the pair would start an unlikely relationship. Then when Bond enters her life again, the part of being conflicted between her husband and former flame would have just worked so much better. Not only was she then the most recent Bond girl in everybody's mind, but we have seen her chemistry with Brosnan, and we got to care about her. It would have impacted the story a lot more. And you can still have Wai Lin as the main Bond girl as is.

This may have been an original story, but the characters of the villains were definitely in the style of Ian Fleming-style villains, many of whom were really SICK TWISTED bastards. We didn't get this much in the 60s, because when Eon started their series, they were more concerned with style over character. "OHMSS" stood out so much because that was the only time in the 60s the main villain AND the main girl got more screen time in the film than in the novel, rather than far less.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service 9. The Spy Who Loved Me 10. For Your Eyes Only 11. Diamonds Are Forever 12. The Man with the Golden Gun 13. Live and Let Die 14. Tomorrow Never Dies 15. You Only Live Twice 16. Octopussy 17. A View to a Kill 18. Moonraker Sadly this movie couldn't live up to GoldenEye, even though it's better than many people give it credit for. It was actually a very socially critical movie for its time and even works as such today, even though through the explosion of the internet and the web 2.0 in the early 2000s the film is very dated with the focus being on newspapers and television. But big corporations controlling the media, especially those kinds of media, still exist and there are actually people within this world that are not too unsimilar to Carver. So in my opinion, the movie holds up better than you might expect but you have to place it a bit on the meta-level for that.

While it wasn't as noticeable as Craig's hard reboot, the brosnan films were kind of a soft reboot in the sense that, bar Q, it's a new cast and while the old films were still in continuity references were kept to a minimum pre Die another Day so new audiences could jump in [like when Elektra says 'have you lost someone' you can imagine Bond is thinking of Tracey but he doesn't say it], so replacing Felix with Jack Wade [and avoiding having to reference LTK] was part of that though I believe Felix does get a vague mention in Goldeney [as Wade says he has a friend in the DEA which is who Felix was working for in LTK].

25:11 I like to think that Bond has just learned how to speak the languages-and hasn't yet learned all of the symbols-to make it make sense.

I've been reading "Some Kind of Hero"; which is such a brilliant read and in it, they say that by the 2nd Bond film, you're hooked. Well, I played Goldeneye 64 first and then watched the movie 2nd and I was hooked from then on out. However TND has always ranked low, for me, but I've grown to appreciate it over the years since.

My first 007 movie that I watched as a kid from beginning to end also playing the PS1 version that I love to this day, it might be one of the less successful 007 games however it brought me closer becoming a big James Bond fan! Love me some TND, movie or game? Doesn't matter. Bond, James Bond

I have never noticed that before, really. At the end of the pre-credit scene Bond says "BACKSEAT DRIVER". Later in the film he DRIVES his car from the BACKSEAT. Damn, that's smooth

One reason why these reviews you do are cool - The nice bits of info you give us! Such as "Tomorrow Never Lies" title. I can't believe because of a typo, they kept the title mistake! That shot of the other pilot chasing Bond, getting ejected into the other MIG, was classic stuff, and it was awesome. I'll say it again, Judy Dench is an awesome "M", and although when I first saw her in that role, I did wonder about it. But she quickly sold me. BTW, I choked on my frikin' Beer, as you said "M" gave Bond permission to use his penis! That would have been cool to bring back Izabella Scorupco, instead of Terry Hatcher, I would have loved that! But again, Brosnan as you mentioned, does shine once again in this film. Like you, and many others have said, I really wish the writers had better scripts for Pierce. As good as he was as Bond, how much "greater" could he have been? But over all it was classic stuff - action, fights, car chases, etc...Everything you expect, and you certainly showed the best hi-lights for sure! Nice job making it all work, cool editing, and just an enjoyable recap Jeroen!

The Paris carver character was supposed to be Pam Bouvier from license to kill. The actress did not agree to return, so they just created a new character.
@Dlatsch13 жыл бұрын
I wonder would it have been better; if Paris was Sylvia Trench from Dr No and From Russia With Love.
@jamesatkinsonja3 жыл бұрын
That isn't true actually. The idea of Paris being an 'ex of Bond' was thought up very last minute [apparantly at Brosnan's suggestion] to avoid her being a generic 'sacrificial lamb' character so it was never meant to be a past Bond character.
@jamesatkinsonja3 жыл бұрын
@@Dlatsch1 Would have come across as just 'fan service' as both Bond and Sylvia's actor had changed so it wouldn't have had the same impact as say Natalia being reused [if that was on the cards].

I'm glad Pam Bouvier wasn't killed off.

I love how Bond is whisked by police escort to the airport because it's so urgent... and yet Q still beats him out there, complete with a new car shipped out to Germany too!

Michelle Yeoh's character knew where HMS Devonshire was located because the Chinese MIGs had already intercepted the ship.

I always thought the BIG problem with this movie was that they didn't bring back Natalya, from Goldeneye, to play Terri Hatchers character. Can you imagine when she dies how big of an impact that would of had????

Elliot Carver and Henry Gupta perfectly represent, not only physically, Steve Jobs and Steven Wozniak, two tech revolutionists who sold their former ideas. Tomorrow Never Dies was being prophetic on the Silicon Valley, the power of media and tech over politics and the phenomenom of fake news. Bond, as an old-fashioned hero standing by his own conviction, literally manages to demask what is going on by making the stealth ship visible to radar. The movie is better now than it was at its release.

+Armando Valmont The topic of the movie certainly is even more relevant today than it was in the 90'ies!

M telling 007 to use Paris like this might’ve been contradictory to what she said in GoldenEye BUT it’s still fitting for the character cause she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done, even things she doesn’t agree with.

@22:00 Ricky Jay I was familiar with from some of the other excellent movies he was in, including Boogie Nights and Magnolia the Paul Thomas Anderson films and Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige and discovered his stage magic work by chance, you would have no idea this guy was an outstanding magician since I just assumed he was just a random character actor who did some bit parts in some notable films. I’m sure you’ve checked out ‘Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants’ which was a mind-blowing magic show with some amazing sleight-of-hand.

This is the first time I actually see the full circle of the joke "back-seat driving" that Bond spoke about in the prologe, and later performs himself in the car chase scene later on in the backseat of his BMW. XD

I have never understood why this film was disliked. I LOVE the intro sequence. The gun market atmosphere, the last minute escape, the clandestine feeling of Bond spying, the picture of him rowing through the flames last second... I do understand that it isnt as strong of a movie as Goldeneye, but still one of the many great displays of the franchise.

Fun fact, Michelle Yeoh visited my work place once with her husband. She looked back several times at me and smiled (she didn't do the same to my colleagues). I was in love!

The fourth Bond flick I ever saw and one that I still very much enjoy. Pierce Brosnan delivers a good performance, and his Bond here is closer to Roger Moore version thanks to the amount of quips he gets in this movie, which I really enjoy. Judi Dench, Samantha Bond and Desmond Llewelyn once again do a great job as the MI6 regulars and I really love Desmond's chemistry with Pierce. Jonathan Pryce is an excellent villain. I absolutely love his hammy and energetic performance. His joy is just contagious and you can tell he is having the time of his life. Gotz Otto's Stamper is one of the better Red Grant clones, though I still feel Necros is a bit better. But Stamper is quite cool as well. Vincent Schiavelli is both creepy and amusing as Dr. Kaufman, and despite his brief screen time, he leaves a big impression. However, this flick sets the standard of the next Brosnan movies of having one excellent Bond girl and one bland Bond girl. The excellent one is Wai Lin. I just love her and I really feel she is quite a competent ally to Bond. Plus, I always found her pretty hot. However, Paris Carver is pretty boring and flat. She just fails to leave an impression on me. Monica Bellucci would have been excellent in the role, and it's fortunate that we got her in Spectre as brief as her role was in that. Daphne Deckers... despite being a brief part, I think I can see why she is proud of being involved in it. I mean, seriously, she is so stunningly beautiful that she really leaves an impression. David Arnold's score is brilliant. I really love the synth he adds to it and the actions scenes is really excellently scored. So yeah, another enjoyable entry in the catalogue of Bond flicks.

That 'Surrender' theme is CLASSIC David Arnold. THe music within this is very similar (chord structures and even melody) to his work in Independence Day.

One more thing... in the novelization of TND, it was explained that Bond had lied about studying Asian languages at Cambridge

the car windscreen armor fails due to rocket attack and the rifle rounds eventually penetrate it is a reasonable depiction of armoured glass for the screen to absorb everything including rocket launcher with no scratches would be too far fetched the rocket launcher is designed to defeat armour after all :)

I did always have that feeling that this Bond film was rushed through in its production, not having a deep enough dialogue or character development amongst the cast. I had no idea that Bond and Lois Lane did not get along well backstage though.

Remember, the pretenders were supposed to sing the title song to the living daylights, however Eon chose A-ha to replicate the success of the previous film with Duran Duran. I get why they chose Sheryl Crow for marketing purposes.

Christophe Tam no they chose her because of her talent

The Crow song is a classic theme, sounds very 007ish to me and millions of others who just accept it for what it was.....and she sings it brilliantly, the Lang song is not a lead song and I love kd Lang, who was just as marketable having just come off constant craving and the Ingenue album
@henrykujawa44273 жыл бұрын
I noticed that after this, starting with the next film, the end credits started just having "The James Bond Theme" ever time. Maybe they should have a bonus feature on the DVDs where there's an alternate version of this film with K.D. Lang over the opening credits, and "The James Bond Theme" (1962 version) over the end credits.
