You might not believe this event that happened to me when I used to work at a rehabilitation center, most of my coworkers knew how much I like JAMES BOND.... well,one day a therapist that I made friends with, told me that her mother lived in Malibu and PIERCE BROSNAN used sit at her mother's side every Sunday at Church in Malibu and that after church they used to chat a little....this was after PIERCE BROSNAN S wife had past away, and my friend asked me if I wanted to send my condolences....and I did,by the way they had already told him that he had real good fan of his. Needless to say from then on he would always asked how I was doing and sent his greetings to me. I THOUGHT IT WAS SOOO AWESOME. PIERCE BROSNAN YOU ARE THE BEST. YOUR ALWAYS FAN.

Awesome review, always great to see some love for this very underrated film in the series. I would like to point out that in the casino Bond is not refusing sex when he says "This is a game I can't afford to play" he was referring to the fact that she was to stay at the villa but instead put herself and his mission in danger by showing up to the casino and throwing around a million like it's nothing. Even Valentin says "I bet there are people in this very casino who would like to see the King pipeline disappear". He only refuses her once to do some investigating.

Awesome review! Thought the world was not enough was an improvement from the previous film Tomorrow never dies. Necessarily one of my favorites? Well I would say yeah. Pierce Brosnan is at his best in this film, having a femme fatale by Electra as the main villain of the film? Well It's about time. Renard is a pretty cool villain. Bullet in his head, feels no pain, dies within a few hours. Realistic, no. Interesting, yes. But, there's only one person that leads this film to a downfall. Denise Richards as Christmas Jones. One, wooden acting. Two, Nuclear Physicist yeah right. Three, two words. "Wet T-shirt"! MI6 regulars fine as usual. Action scenes. Awesome. Favorite part of the film? Boat chase in London. I mean come on, they should have had the Cigar girl as the main Bond girl instead. Her character is more interesting than Christmas Jones. And I highly agree on you about the ending too. "I thought you only liked cigars in your mouth". It would have been perfect for the ending instead of "I thought Christmas only comes once a year". So two thumbs to you for that. ^_l. In the end, awesome review on Brosnan's third outing and good luck on the next film "Die another day" which by the way sucks with a capital S! Thanks for being an awesome Bond reviewer! P.S. (Personal request) can you mention "The World is not enough" video game for the Nintendo 64 on your next review PLEASE?!

A very good review. Personally I always thought the relationship between Bane and Talia in The Dark Knight Rises was very reminiscent of Renard and Elektra's alliance in this film (though of course Bane and Talia were not lovers). You've got a young, rich, beautiful woman who sleeps with the hero in the first act of the film but it is later revealed she was working with a menacing terrorist all along. It's eerily similar.
@jonathancampbell52316 жыл бұрын
I sat through TDKR thinking "Christopher Nolan likes The World Is Not Enough". There are actually quite a few elements borrowed from this film for that one, including the villain being a guy who doesn't feel pain, a villainess with daddy issues, a plot to blow up a major city with a nuclear weapon...heck, Bruce Wayne and Bond even have injuries that end up not being all that important to the story despite being set up.
@MorganTC Жыл бұрын
@@jonathancampbell5231There are a lot of stuff from Bond films the Christopher Nolan references in his films which I quite like. Shows how much of a fan Nolan is of the Bond franchise.

Pretty sure we were meant to infer that Bond fell for Electra so easily because she specifically designed herself and the situations they got into to evoke memories of Tracey. The emotional vulnerability, the fact that she’s constantly in danger, having a romantic moment in a snowy location and losing at cards they’re all traits her and Tracey share which could trigger Bond to think romantically about her by association
@randomhuman972 жыл бұрын
But since Brosnan was a semi reboot, he's probably thinking of Paris carver when Electra asked him have you lost someone. . That's why he didn't know mandarin in TND though he's supposed to know basic of all national languages

Not really. Even in Goldeneye his enemies were referring to the women he had failed to protect. So odds are Tracey was part of his past.

Great review as usual. I agree that with Brosnan's performance in TWINE, he'd really hit his stride. I still really enjoy this movie. But disagree about the title song. David Arnold and Don Black really wrote a great song, perfectly performed by Garbage, and one that really fitted the film, rather than the generic efforts that the series had recently given (e.g. Sheryl Crow (and Madonna to come OMG!)) With regards to Denise Richards, yeah, weak performance, but come on... She's hot!!!

This Re-Cap seriously ROCKED, and thanks for all the work you put in on these Jeroen... As usual, you always come up with cool intro's, and this was no exception. "Q" - Playing the Bond video game, was great opening I thought!! Then transitioning into Brosnan saying what you and may others said, the 3rd movie seems to be where these guys got comfortable & confident in the role as Bond, and usually turns out to be the best. I'd like to focus in on a few key points you made during this Re-Cap 1. 1. Thanks for focusing on Maria Grazia Cucinotta's, Um "Key Points"...Seriously, There's no way to mess that up anyway!! But I also totally agree - SHE should have had a better role, even as a "Bond Girl", and who knows what that alone could have brought to this movie! 2. I'm glad you brought up the action about the movie - where the writers wanted to go towards a more "story driven" movie. It's just too bad Brosnan didn't get better roles, as you & others here have pointed out. But it is too bad there wasn't another other "great" action sequences, after that awesome extended opening sequence of the movie! 3. Christmas Only Comes Once A Year - Denise Richards - WHY was she in this movie??!! ...I know you & Jeff called her "eye candy".... True, but some times even candy needs some "substance"! Even when Richards is justr standing there, not saying anything, it doesn't seem like she belongs in the scene, and appears to now know what to do! OK, that's the end of my Denise Richards rant! 4. My favorite quote from you Jeroen "I thought you only liked Cigars in your mouth, when wondering what if the final scene was with Maria!!"!! WOW!!! I was NOT expecting that, and I almost spit out my coffee on my PC LCD!! I never knew"Q" died from a car accident back in 1999, that's too bad. I also always enjoyed Desmond's interaction with Bond in these movies. He was a great "Q". But you also as always put the best scenes, and story aspects in your re-caps. Like all of the sudden Bond is in bed with Elektra, and the movie just cuts to that scene? I never noticed that before! The Mention of CGI for the first time, and how it will play a huge part in the upcoming films. Renard in a sense wasn't "really" the main villain, as Elektra turns out to be a Villain - Even though in reality - They're lovers!. I do like the fact the writers had Bond get really attached to her though ( instead of just BANGING her, like Bond usually does!) , that does add to the over all Plot, and affects Bonds thinking, and what he must do - Kill Elektra. You also always make really great points with scenes that don't make sense ( or could have been better, like the ending where Bond kills Renard) , and your own script you prepare for these Re-Caps, makes even all the scenes that "could" have been better in the movie, more enjoyable to watch. We're all Bond fans here, and there are certain aspects we all just accept, like all the one liners ( cheesey as some may be!) over the top stunts, and scenes that don't always make sense, and the casting of an actress just because they're "Eye Candy"!! We know you worked really hard on this, and it's the longest Re-Cap to date, but your editing, the scenes you chose, and again, your own script you wrote for this, made this another cool & great Re-Cap. I did like the movie over all, it had some good things going on, with the story aspect, but I was a little under whelmed with the action ( besides the opening of course!) But I did enjoy the film, and of course really enjoyed this Re-Cap. Awesome work Jeroen!!

The one thing missing from TWINE was a car chase. Unforgivable! However a fine score, locations, Brosnan comfortably enjoying the role. It just gelled. Interesting story, I met the SFX guy involved in making the fibre glass Brosnan (fired from the torpedo port). I remember reading some article (in EW or something) claiming that they were fully intending to bring Desmond Llewelyn back one last time after this, and all the talk of his up-coming retirement in this one was just supposed to lay the groundwork, gently getting the audience used to the notion of him not being around anymore. It really wasn't meant to be good-bye forever. Although the way it's shot and edited, it does serve the purpose of _acting_ as a good-bye forever too, albeit kind of a no-frills version of one. I imagine they were hedging their bets, dealing with such an old actor. They probably weren't thinking car wreck though.

Of the quartet of 007 movies by Brosnan, this is definitely my all time favourite : it has the plot twists that's expected of an action movie. Judi Dench, Sophie Marceau, Robbie Coltrane, Robert Carlyle and co are excellent in their roles (Denise Richards is forgettable) and it's a perfect farewell to the much revered Mr Desmond Llewellyn as "Q" - the talisman of the movie is the choice of director : Michael Apted. If there's a character driven movie - in the history of film - this is one of many, in so many words, a "precursor" to another brilliant movie : Skyfall!.

“I’m sure they’re perfectly rounded”. dang I keep discovering more of what these Bond one liners mean when I see the movies again. Also they got the concept of fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) correct. When ammonium nitrate dissolves in water, it creates an endothermic reaction in which the ammonium nitrate cools the environment around it. Bond noticed the cold feeling and reacted as a result. Ammonium Nitrate was behind the massive explosion in Beirut in 2020, static electricity called the explosion.

Only Pierce can pull of a linen suit. 🤷♀️ It was entertaining but they had a lot of plot points they never touched upon like Elektra’s kidnapping nor did they care to touch on Her henchman, played by Carlyle. Pierce deserved better scripts because he was awesome in all the movies however terrible the movie’s script was. I felt bad for Denise Richards since she didn’t have anything to do and was just there for some reason. I love this review since I know the jokes you make and when I see the movie I just laugh at all the serious lines because I can hear your voice making the jokes. Loved this review. Keep it up 😃😃😃

Desmond Llewellyn was an integral link between all but only 2 of the Bond movies. Always a welcoming, gentlemanly, fiesty, humourous and humourful, appearance. He really combined so many qualities so wonderfully.

Many of the henchman deaths involve using their strength against them like killing Oddjob with electricity when he retrieves his hat. In this movie, Renard's strength is his inability to feel pain. It would have been interesting if James Bond would have flash frozen Renard's feet with coolant while Renard was busy trying to insert the rod. Since he felt no pain, he would not have noticed until it was too late and would fall down in a heap as his feet shattered. It would have made it a more interesting death. I've always wanted to ask the filmmakers if they ever thought of that.

Gurke Nowadays Licence to kill gets a ton of appreciation nowadays. So its not underrated anymore. And if you ask me I‘m among the very few people who really dislike LTK as I rank it near the bottom.. So i think it is tremendously OVERRATED

There are a lot of things wrong with this film. I bought it on VHS back in the day. I like Sophie Marceau though.

I really admire your videos! Of all the Bond reviewers i've seen, you are by far the most clever! Please, make recappings of the rest of Craig's movies, because i've been watching again all the 007 movies, this time chronological order, and i would like to watch this recappings when i get to the Craig's movies (the last movie i've watched was The World is Not Enough). Greetings from Brazil

+Lucien Cavalcante Hi Lucien! Thats quite the compliment, Im a fan of the other Bond reviewers myself, and being called the most clever is a real honor! Of course the other Recapping episodes will follow with time, but I do intend to take my time with it and spread out other Bond videos in between, its still a long road to Bond 25 for us Bond reviewers to entertain the fans! Greetings from Holland. P.s Coutinho made a sensational goal for your country tonight!

I love how they even had some of the cast like Q promoting the video games, that was the coolest thing ever! Good old 90s :-) they definitely don't have fun stuff like that anymore

This was the first Bond movie I ever saw in theaters. Yeah, not a good cherry breaker. Fortunately my family had me watching several of Connery’s Bond films to break me in. So it wasn’t all bad.

23:16 they did have time to defuse it, they had all the time in the world. Reason because it explodes is because since Bond knew that Elektra was behind all this, he lets the bomb explode, to make it look like they both died in the explosion

I cant believe people actually hate this song. I agree the pickup and majority of the song is a bit bland, but that works in its benefit when the awesome chorus takes over. "The world is not enoooough!" Just perfect. Especially the ending when she keeps it goun at a higher pitch. Amazing

I remember one instance when I was riding a bus and listening to "The World Is Not Enough" by Garbage on my earphones and as the song concluded I the bus stopped at a red light and then a van with huge "KING" logo stopped right next to the bus, right next to a window I was sitting behind.... Yea, my life is full of funny coincidences.

Wicked review! I really enjoy this movie too, even with its faults. I admit I never thought about that, Bond going from keeping Elektra to banging Elektra five minutes later......She wasn't kidding about her power over men. I cannot wait for your review of Die Another Day. I may not hate it, but damn what a mess.
