I have eclectic tastes and seeing punk and Benny Hill in the same video is right up my street. One of my earliest singles was in the 70s, handed down to me as a kid in the 70s, along with an old Dansette. .. Benny Hill's "Harvest Of Love' 7inch from the early 1960s.

Chris, I have listened to Thomas Leer's Private Plane' since 1978. it is featured on the 1978 compilation of private label releases called 'Business Unusual' (Cherry Red Records), side one features more conventional punk/new wave stuff and side two more electronic, experimental stuff, all of it makes for a great taste of a magic era. I still play my vinyl copy to this day occasionallyThe album has a track from Adrian Borland of The Sound's early band The Outcasts, who actually made the first punk album in 1976.

Hi Chris. When Jean Michel Jarre came to prominence with Oxygene I was pretty sniffy about it as I deemed it to be overly commercial in sound and not the experimental type of electronic music I loved. But over time I've got to like his music more and appreciate it for what it is. I've been picking up a lot of his albums recently as you can always find them dirt cheap at record fairs. Siren is as far as I go with Roxy - was never a fan of the smoother sound that they fully adopted on later albums like Avalon. Phallus Dei is a superb album. It was the very first album I heard by them (and one of the very first Krautrock albums I ever heard), and it resonated with me immediately. It took me a while to get into Chicago- not because of the schmaltzy stuff they did later, but because of the horns. But now I really quite like those early albums - at least up to Chicago IV. That Machine Head reissue does sound enticing - saw another online review praising the remastering too. BTW was just watching the other day Benny Hills take off of the Rolling Stones - so funny!

Got about 3-4 jmj albums. Enjoy them too. But tangerine dream he isn’t. Struggling with Phallus dei but will give it time! I don’t mind early Chicago. First 3 plus the jazzy VII. machine head is a revelation. Cheers Pete, Chris

Private Plane by Thomas Leer is a good find. It was, incidentally, the NME's 27th best single of the year in 1978.

Interesting mix of finds Chris. Machine Head 50th looks very lavish. Interesting that the last three albums you showed I have recently purged. I couldn't get on with Phallus Dei. Cheers Dale

MH 50th is lovely for sure. Not sure how many I will keep of this lot. I’m not good at purging though. Have regrets about some previous purges. I really haven’t bought much in 2024 and am enjoying what I already own. Got a feeling there won’t be a recent finds video for quite a considerable while now. Decided I’m Not going to any of the remaining 2024 Bristol fairs. Can’t be arsed frankly. Will continue to share what I have. Hope all is well Winch way. Cheers, Chris

That is indeed Jerry Hall on the cover of Siren. I'm sure she was dating Bryan Ferry at the time, before switching to Mick Jagger later on! Nice find, great vid 🙂

speaking of instrumental music to put in the background - sonic seasonings by wendy carlos is a great record for that. I just got it a few days ago, sounds a bit like brian eno, but it was recorded quite a few years before all that.

Hi Chris, The Marshall Tucker album is great, some of the best Southern rock guitar on the live sides that one will ever hear; Toy Caldwell was a master (RIP). I saw them in Florida back in the day. I loved the first version of Chicago - they were one of the great Brass-Rock bands of the era, IMO the Kath era was the best, I couldn't stand the soppy 80's & 90's stuff....for me the albums 5/6/7/8 offer the best recordings, musicianship, arrangements and productions, as I'm a deep cuts fan !
@TheVinylOrchard4 ай бұрын
I enjoy MTB. Underrated musician. Chicago…Kath was brilliant but I rarely go out of my way to play them. But there first few were good.

Hi Chris. I’ve noticed that Slaughter & the Dogs records are going up in price lately. Cranked Up Really High is a fantastic UK punk stomper. I’m finally coming round to Jean Michel Jarre, following a recommendation from a friend. I used to be a bit snooty about him but Equinox is pretty good. You’re right about Siren being a transition into the later, smoother Roxy. I think it’s easily one of their best cover shots. I have that Amon Duul II record. I like it but it definitely comes out of that communal hippie improvised jamming culture. Take care, John.

Enjoying JMJ at the moment. Am really into Tangerine Dream too. Bit more credible possibly. Amon Duul II. Hmmm. Not sure

Great find on the Thomas Leer debut single, I only have a one-sided promo copy of a 1984 release of his, Heartbeat. I only really know him from his time in the duo, ACT, with Claudia Brücken (Propaganda). They released one album - Laughter, Tears And Rage (1988) and a few singles. Cranked up is the debut single from Slaughter & the dogs, they then signed to Decca and release the bootboys single... you really do need to find the nosebleeds single now LOL.

My copy of Machine Head sounds shocking, so if there's a budget version of the new remaster going I may look into it. Funny how many Rick Wakeman albums you find cluttering up the £1 boxes in the UK. Despite ostensibly having a pretty impressive pedigree in prog, he's about as valued now as Gilbert O'Sullivan or Nana Mouskouri. Yep, it's Jerry on the Roxy Music. Cheers Chris, good selection.

The new Dweezil Zappa mix is phenomenal. Rick wakeman is Poundland material.

Very interesting video Chris as usual, I am very interested in the Deep Purple Machine Head release but my problem is I only now collect CD it really gets on my nerves why do they mix CD box sets with Vinyl what is the point either way why do you need the vinyl if your a CD collector or the other way round? Just release a copy of the remix on Vinyl and one on CD.

Wholeheartedly agree. Seems daft. As is constantly remastering stuff too

Haha! Ernie by Benny Hill. Kept Jeepster off of Number 1. Novelty hits must have been the bain of Marc Bolan's life as Grandad by Clive Dunn kept Ride A White Swan off the top. And Jimmy Osmond's Long Haired Lover from Liverpool kept Solid Gold Easy Action at number 2!
