Not only are your videos so great for me to watch as an ASL student that hopes to one day become fluent, but I also just love you guys as a relationship in general and think taht even if I wasn't taking ASL I would still watch all the time. My boyfriend and I have been together for four years and there's ALWAYS challenges and I love that you made sure that was known, people always think we are perfect too and it's important to shoot that concept down. I appreciate you guys talking about the past couple months and admitting that it wasn't good at all because we have had that happen to us before too and now we are even stronger. Sending love from UofA!

I don't watch you very often, but this popped up today. My gosh, you are talking about two books that I have been trying to get my husband to read. I showed him this video and he watched most of it. Neither one of us know sign so the captions help. He is not American and he claims that he sometimes can't understand English (he has been here 30 years). Our problems are compounded because of cultural differences and I come from a family of divorce. I would like our marriage to improve. I think this video helped in that a guy was talking about improving his marriage, not just a gal talking about it. Thank you for the video.

Nice video! My husband and I read the 5 Love Languages book years ago when we were first married, it is a great resource and helps a lot with understanding that everyone has a different way they feel loved and unless you are speaking their language it just isn't getting through. Glad to see that you are working on fixing your marriage and that you are both willing to put in the work and make changes in yourself in order to grow together as a couple. That is becoming very rare in our culture. I had a pastor once tell us that you should never quit dating your spouse! Remind yourself of what attracted you to them then, and remind yourself what it was like when you thought all those quirks they had were still cute ;) We all grow and mature and change all through life the key is to make sure you grow together. Hang in there. You are doing all the right things :)

i heard once that you "start making love," so to speak, early in the morning, meaning, you say good morning to one another, you thank the person who made the coffee, you tell the person he or she smells nice after the shower or looks nice in their work clothes, you hug good-bye as you leave for work, you text each other at least once from work, you talk about your day while cooking dinner, you wash dishes together, you hold hands as you walk to the couch to watch tv... etc. etc etc you don't separate at 7 am and then expect romanticism when you fall in bed 10 hours later.

So happy you guys found books that helped you learn and grow in ways that strengthened your relationship. It is also so important to allow self care time. This is not the same as being selfish and allows us to fulfill some of our own needs and desires and keep from growing resentment or unrealistic expectations of our partner. It's also good you guys gained the language through the love languages book to communicate your desires clearly to one another. So often couples struggle to be straight forward and tell their partner what they need. It is helpful to clearly tell your partner your needs so they don't need to guess. This takes away a lot of mental anxiety and miscommunications. I would also recommend the book Come as you are by Emily Nagoski. It addresses creating healthy sexual relationships but largely focuses on topics of healthier mental wellbeing for everyone. I think it is beneficial for anyone to read. I did the e-book personally.

these books seem really interesting and it seems, from my understanding, that they’re about being more intentional in how a person acts and communicates in a relationship which is definitely something that extends across various kinds of relationships. also so glad to see you guys back!

It’s funny because he will want to touch me and that’s fine but not great and then I will go out of my way to do something for him and he will not care too much. It’s because we are using our own love language, not each other’s. Will look into the other book you mention, thanks!

Hey guys! Good to see a new video from you! I'm so glad you were able to glean good things from your time and studying together. Keep it up! Your videos help my learn ASL because most videos are just one person doing the signing. It helps me to see the interaction between two people signing, thanks! I hope to see many more from you. I would love to hear both of your perspectives on D(d)eaf identity. As a hard of hearing person with increasing deafness, I'm processing what it would mean to start identifying as Deaf...would I be offending anyone because I'm saying I'm deaf although not "fully" deaf (I have 52% hearing loss which is increasing). If I tell a hearing person I'm deaf, would it be confusing to them because I still have some hearing? Just processing, guys, I'd love your two cents since you're in the deaf community more than myself. THANKS! -Dawn

I really liked how you mentioned reading the books in your video. I was wanting to recommend a book to y'all. It's called "love and respect" by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. It talks about how a man's deepest need is respect and a woman's deepest need is love. It's a really good book. It has helped me to understand that men and women are different. It's really helped out my marriage as well.

@Fred-h4p6 жыл бұрын
I will tell you now, my ex-wife and I read that book too, and it's BS. We didn't work out and have been divorced for 4 years. What you two have going for you is that you laugh together, you enjoying doing things together, this Vlog and your traveling. Strong relationships are based on Respect; Shared Interests; Healthy Communications; Understanding and Acceptance for each other's differences. No book will help you achieve that. You either already have it for each other, or you don't. Fortunately from what I can see, you two have the key points nailed down. Every relationship has it's problems, but as long as the two of you can keep communicating and laughing together, you will be fine. Silent Treatment is the number one relationship killer. Don't do it.
@OurSignedWorld6 жыл бұрын
Wow I’m sorry to hear that. The book really helped us when we applied it. Marriage is hard, it really does take two people and 100% of their effort and heart. It doesn’t work any other way. Respect is definitely super important and having shared interest too. We didn’t have many shared interest for a while and started to do our own things, separately, all the time, which was not healthy for us. We both had to make sacrifices to find shared hobbies and put some of our other hobbies aside for now to focus 100% on our marriage. The book talked about having at least 15hrs a week together doing something you both enjoy together. It definitely wasn’t easy to find, it took time and patience but we got there. But you’re 100% right communication is KEY. The silent treatment never works. It creates bitterness and resentment.
@smileboy4236 жыл бұрын
The life is sometimes hard. I‘m sorry what’s happened in the last time. But you’re not only one who have problems in the relationship. We all have hard life. Important is, you should more control your life. But I wish you good luck.
