This video is the 2nd part of receptor pharmacology. This is all about- Receptor Pharmacology- Part- 02- Receptor Theories and Classification of Receptors. Different theories have been proposed by scientist to explain the mechanism of drug and understanding of receptor pharmacology. these theories are-
1- Lock and Key Theory for receptor
2- Rate theory for receptor
3- Occupational theory of receptor
4- Radio labelled theory for receptor
5- Molecular theory of receptor
Pharmacology is all about the study of drug and their effect on the body along with the body responsible for the drug taken. The drug gives its action mainly through the receptor.
Receptors are the macromolecule or binding site located at the surface or inside the cell. They are used to recognize the signal or drug molecule and initiate the biological response. The biological response is generally given by any drug using any of this mechanism- (1) Enzyme (2) Ion channels (3) Transport (4) Receptor. In biochemistry and pharmacology, a receptor is a protein molecule that receives chemical signals from outside a cell. When such chemical signals bind to a receptor, they cause some form of cellular/tissue response, e.g. a change in the electrical activity of a cell. The conformational change in the receptor can cause the receptor to become an enzyme and actively combine or separate certain molecules.
