Did you wieght the fried rice before dehydrating so you know how many grams of water you need to rehydrate fully? i would recommend using ghee as a frying oil as it does not go rancid very quickly. We just use regular ribbed vacuum bags rather than the more expensive mylar one if we plan to use the dehydrated meals with afew months. Never have thought of rehyrated fried rice before, as we normally dehydrate the ingredents seperately then rehydrate before cooking due oils going rancid. We have dehydrate cooked pasta as a seperate ingredent before for our overlanding trips and it rehydrates very well, steam rehydrating giving the best results with most food which we them fry if the recipe needs it. Our dehyrating has been aimed at medium to long term food storage, the reason i mention ghee is we are currently using some we made back in 2017 and it is still good, the note attached to that batch and how much we payed for the butter shows a 119% increase in price and the water content of butter is 1.2% higher for the same brand than in 2017. Thanks for the camping meal idea, we will give it a try as we would use it in less than a month at most. Take care, God bless one and all.

Thanks for the tip! Definately going the check out ghee. I did not weigh it before rehydrating. I actually never do that. Always cover my food with water about one cm above the food when rehydrating and its works perfectly all the time.

Can you drop these bags into bpiling water to cook/hydrate, or do you have to remove the contents and add water to the food to cook? Thank you
@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl9 ай бұрын
I put boiling water in the bags so I assume the other way around (dropping them in water) should be working fine as well. But you have to make sure that the ones you are buying can handle boiling water because not every mylar bag can.

Hi! I’m just now exploring back dehydrating back packing meals, how do you know how much liquid to add to rehydrate a meal?
@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl Жыл бұрын
Hi. I always make sure that the amount of water is around half a centimeter (or a whole centimeter if I want that specific meal to be a bit more saucy) above the food. Works all the time.
@gwenprice4979 Жыл бұрын
@@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl thanks, do you pour the water into the pouches you sealed them in?

Hi and welcome. For this recipe I cooked two portions of rice and the rest was actually not measured. I Just took the amount I liked for the veggies.

@@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl Thanks, I will try it. Now I just need to find the Spice Pack in a German Store. Looking forward to other recipe's from you. You might want to look at the Book from Kevin Ride "Backcountry Eats". He is from Kanada. His KZbin channel is "Kevin Outdoors" I really like his recipes. Something totally different. How did you overcome the fear of walking by yourself or sleeping alone outside. I guess you have Ravi. The fear is really holding me back. Thanks Sylvia

@@Witch-is6os I think you will find them at Edeka or Rewe. Maybe Kaufland as well. Yeah, Kevin has some great recipes! I actually never had any fears of being out alone. I have never done it differently as I have nobody nearby who is interested in multi Day hikes as well. So I actually never tought of the fears and just enjoyed what I was doing. Ofcourse I always have Ravi with me indeed and I think that will help as well 😉

@theoutdoordogandhikinggirl9 ай бұрын
@@YosiAndriani-nk1du that's a good idea, thanks. Will include that in my next video about the subject. What I do is that I cover the food with water completely. About 1cm above the food. That I let it rehydrate for about 20 minutes. Workes all the time.
