The drill was an educational sacrifice...maybe not quite the same as a donor...I'm sure there was no more purpose in it. Is there a PETA group for power tools as well?

I love reciprocating saws. I've used my uncle's when helping renovate his house and build his addition and I've borrowed it a few times. Although I've used them before, I just bought my first one today. I'm about to renovate my and my grandma's kitchen. I wish I would have had it the other day when I cut a hole in the wall for a new outlet( a jigsaw and files are hard to work with on beaded wall panels). I'll also have many jobs for it in my workshop.

I'm new in DIY wood works. I just bought a hikoki circular saw but I feel no confident to use it. So I thought I want to change it to recipicating saw as I feel I'm ok with it. My question is, can I use recipicating saw for my wood work projects? I know the cut is not that clean like a circular saw but I feel more confident using it.

I just purchased a 15 amp Milwaukee Orbital SawZall ($199.99 + tax) to remove tile adhesive using scrapers that came with one adapter for use with this saw. Well, the part of the adapter that goes into the shank quickly broke and I had to disassemble the shank to remove the broken piece. Now, it turns out that this tool is not design for this type of work. So now, I am trying to find out what to do with this tool. Use it on what? Watching your video gave me some ideas. Thank you for your time and sharing you knowledge.

Here is the problem with getting old, one tends to forget the names of items. In my case it is a blade for the saw that has teeth on all edges. It has a curved tip so with care you can cut straight through without a hole as a guide. Similar to a jig saw. The best saw is the Porter Cable with the revolving and tilting head. I obtained one a few years back on Ebay, nothing better. Went to a job hanging doors in Kansas City one week and while there I stopped all workers including the Foreman when I let another carpenter borrow my Porter Cable reciprocating saw. They were amazed with the saw and the power it had. I don't see them anywhere today for some reason but mine still works great. I was told it was to be in the will when I pass.

I do not have a reciprocating saw yet but I can see it as a very useful tool to take pallets apart. And cutting steel rod with it looks good. Today I did some pieces with an angle grinder (as usual) but because of the sparks you have to be dressed like a mummy. Not very pleasant with tropical temperatures outside. Thanks for sharing the video. It is very useful.

Any hints on how to remove a stuck blade? I have a saw that won't release the blade when you rotate (not 'twist') the locking collar. Not ideal. :( Sprayed light oil into and around the mechanism but nothing gives. I can't quite envisage what the insides does. Thx.

You should have mentioned removing blade from the saw after use is a great safety tip. I dropped my Porter Cable at the Bosses place and he put saw in the case but left the blade sticking out the case. Of Course he screamed and yelled at me when he picked me up for work as he had taken tools out of truck and happened to walk into the blade that was sticking out. It was a new sharp blade and since he had on flip flops in the garage it cut the hell out of his foot. Hint Ebay used to be great place to get good price on blades.

I have the Bosch version of that Hackzall. I bought it because I thought it would be good for trimming tree branches - what a waste of money. The stoke is so short that the blade is always clogged with whatever it is you are cutting. It might be good for things like PVC pipe, but I literally never use mine.

@@knecht105 Considering getting some Bosch 240mm long 'wood' blades, very course and open like a bow saw blade designed for cutting green wood/branches. Does the stroke of the saw limit its cutting efficiency? I'm looking at an inexpensive (aka cheap!) but reasonably powerful mains operated saw with a 20mm stroke length. Is that typical or short? The metal cutting blades are nice. They're flat and wide and made of good hard steel. They can be remade into knives. Some people will even make handles that utilize the quick-install like on the tools. side-note: you didn't mention the shoe adjustment feature many recipsaws have. The blade tends to wear down more near the show so it often be adjusted to add wear in other spots along the blade.
