That reason is probably because jump squats are crazy fast, like frame 3 fast for everyone. Usually people are used to frame 5 or 7, which is a big difference; normally you are used to slower jump squats which gave you more time to let go of the jump button. While frame 3 gives you less time to do short hops.

@Sherwood The reason short hoping might be harder is there is a universal 3-frame crouch animation, making it a tighter window to release jump to perform a short-hop. That's just my opinion.

short hopping is harder with characters that previously had jump-squats longer than 3 frames, because all characters have had their jump-squat buffed to 3 frames. they DO have the easy short hop inputs but, it works like a buffered aerial so, no fast falling like, first hit of multi-hits and stuff like that.

You could just tap your switch's power button(sleep mode) before you get in a 4 man online. Long as the match hasn't loaded in you don't get penalized. Saved me a lot!
