Never assume you are out of danger, whether from a tornado or anything else in the nasty world.

On May 4 2003 my wife, 8 month old son and I were coming home to Lebanon Mo. from the Lake of the Ozarks and was listening to the radio reports of this tornado, I was a Fire Chief at that time and had my department radio on in the truck as well listening to local emergency radio traffic. The local radio station had just issued a tornado warning for northern Laclede and southern Camden Counties and that's exactly where we were at! Then over my fire radio I hear Camden County dispatch the FD and Sheriffs department to a building we had just passed a couple of minutes before and they said the building was destroyed and highway 5 was blocked by debris! And sure enough we had missed getting in that tornado by less than a minute or two, it passed right behind us!!! Two or three people lost their lives right there where we were! I'll never forget that evening as long as I love and thank God we passed through before it hit!

Good one Recky. Just as things go better with Coca-Cola, Storm Stories go better with Recky.

If its not raining hard or hailing, most people growing up in these areas first response when the sirens sound is step out and look for the heart of the storm. With modern radar, its less common because the tv can give you better location information than the old stuff ever provided. Even now, often you get sirens for warnings even though a tornado is 25 miles from you and moving away.

Recky, I definitely love the tornado and other weather reactions. Keep it going. Also like military reactions like the Cologne Tank Battle you did last year or so.

Thank goodness, the cats and their owner made it out alive. You can always replace picture's, furniture and rebuild, but you can't replace loved ones or family pets.

Our cats are our babies--they are part of the family. They go to the vet every time we notice something might be wrong (as well as for their regular checkups). I even have anxiety dreams about them now and then...I'd do everything I could to make sure they were safe.

Yes, please, I love your weather-related videos. Missouri definitely has it's fair share of tornadoes and nasty storms. Please keep showing these videos.

You asked if you could hide in the tank. The answer is no. Have you seen the video a train conductor took as his train got hit by a tornado? If it can move railroad cars, it can toss around a tank, I’m sure.
@loribroadbent8573Күн бұрын
I think the tank was inside the building, though. Would you be able to use that bulk to shield you from falling debris?
@Sevandias12 сағат бұрын
You could def hide in a tank for the lower tier tornados, I wouldn't trust it for an f3 and up, an f4 would likely be able to toss the tank. Most tanks on display however are sealed shut and/or gutted so there's enough protection.

This town is only 34 mi/55 km from Joplin, Missouri, which was struck by an EF-5 tornado, during the 2011 super outbreak.
