Bateman Horne Center has partnered with the University of Utah Health to conduct a Long COVID and Post-Viral Syndromes ECHO (Project ECHO). This series delivers information to healthcare professionals utilizing short didactics and case-based learning to enhance their ability to manage patients with long COVID, ME/CFS, FM, and related comorbid conditions.
Lucinda Bateman, MD, discusses:
- The history of post-viral syndromes (PVS)
- ME/CFS triggers, presentation, and diagnostic criteria
- SARS CoV-2 impact, presentation and possible causes of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC)
- Case examples
- Dysautonomia and orthostatic intolerance (OI)
- Assessing functional impairment: Good Day/Bad Day Questionnaire
- Introduction into common comorbid conditions associated with PVS, ME/CFS, and PASC
Note to community members: We advise viewers to always speak with their medical care team prior to making any adjustments or changes to their current regimen.
Bateman Horne Center’s involvement in this program is made possible with the additional support of the Open Medicine Foundation.

I am boundlessly grateful to Dr Bateman because there isn't a doctor I've seen who understands or even knows ANY of this! It's been so frustrating!! so I study, then have to educate my doctors, while suffering with ME/CFS! Thank you so much, Dr Bateman!

Dr Bateman said something VERY important, "I am convinced that early intervention and supportive care may change the prognosis of post viral syndrome." That is TERRIFIC news! it gives me HOPE! but what kind of early intervention and supportive care?!?!?! Could you do a talk on that?

As stated previously (see below) I respect & appreciate Dr Bateman to the SKY! but would like to kindly push back on something she said about "there's not enough disability grants available for everyone that NEEDS them," emphasis my own. That is incorrect. If our priorities and values as a country were more toward people, regardless of their ability, and less toward war and bolstering the coffers of corporations and the mega rich, there WOULD be enough!! So what about people who need disability but get denied? What becomes of them?! I do not have ME/CFS now because my sympotms have only persisted 3 months. (It feels like an eternity to me!) But if my condition doesn't improve, and I'm doing EVERYTHING I can now to turn things that way, or NON-DOING is more like it!! but if I don't get better or, god forbid, get worse, I will definitely need a LOT of support! financial, medical, emotional, physical, nutritional, etc. and help with ADLs that I am having trouble doing on my own rn.

So glad to have discovered this series; eagerly listening to them all. On a sidenote, I love that Dr. Bateman pointed out that her first LHC patient was wealthy, with access to private PT. To me, her inability to recover even with plenty of money to throw at the illness really drives home how far we have to go in knowledge+treatment. I do wonder if the statement "POTS gives immediate feedback" isn't quite true for those of us with milder or lifelong illness...my heart rate can go up 40bpm on standing (and stay there) and I never noticed it until I got a Fitbit. I never feel great, especially not when doing anything, and I'm usually doing chores while listening to something (this!) to compensate for executive dysfunction...so I don't tend to notice. We're just so used to feeling unwell we dial down the cues. -Kira

Yes, we tune down the cues. This isnwhy I get mad when docs say " you pay to much attention to symptoms, get a life". Well, I lost a full one, possibly because it was too full.

I’m really interested in the pathology and cascade of physiological impacts post infection. In particular, how trauma to various internal systems lead to ongoing (possibly chronic) issues. I liked that you covered that part.

Thank you Dr Bateman and that was great information! Many people may not fit the criterias for ME/ CFS but they can use this information and guidelines to modify their lifestyle to improve illness. Looking forward to more video lectures on this topic in the future. Thank you very much! God bless you!

I developed post-vaccine “long Covid”….. pretty much identical symptoms and as incapacitating. Currently enrolled in ongoing Nath study at NIH.

I've had me/cfs for 27 years, I didn't get vaccinated because I felt it would make it worse. I will never get another vaccine again.

I have post esbl bacterial infection / post sepsis syndrome. Question? Do you know....? What proteins (if any) do NOT bind with b-galactoside? I saw that galectins are high in sepsis and arthritis of which I have both.. I also have pots, chronic pain, migraines, breathless, tinnitus, hypothyroid etc.. Thank you for all that you do. I find your videos very useful.

I agree. Also, there should be at least closed captions activated for people who are hearing impaired. Turning on "CC" is a very easy fix for the person doing the technical stuff uploading the video.

The symptoms must be present 50% of the time? That's not correct because there are flare ups, and between times, the symptoms might not be present.
