I don't know how it happened but I missed this one when it was originally posted. What a fun concept. I'm going out on a limb here because I watched Gilmore Girls faithfully, from beginning to end, even though some of the characters bugged the crap out of me (Christopher and Kirk, et al). Going out on a limb now and recommending a similar show called My So Called Life, with a very young Claire Danes and Jared Leto. I was *obsessed* with this show, even though it only ran for one season here in the U.S. Angela Chase is (almost) as iconic as Lorelei. You can buy the box set but you might need an all-region DVD player? I don't know about these things. ETA that Maid is a very good book. It was made into a television series here but, as always, the book was better.

It’s so funny you mention My So Called Life because I watched it when I very first got my next film account (over 10 years ago now!) and I loved it so much! It was so iconic and I can’t believe it never got more seasons. Such a great recommendation 🫶

Just saying that I love Richard because he's so much like my own grandfather: they both love reading (and my grandpa also shares his love of books with me, he takes my reccommendations and gives me books he thinks I'd like), and they tend to retire to their studies. They are also both privileged and posh, and quite unwilling to see that they don't live in the real world. Also, Jess is the best, specially after he grows up and gets his shit together. I think he challenges Rory's worldview the most and in my head they get together after the revival. Anyways, great recs, I'll take a look at the ones I haven't read yet, because they sound so good.

Although I’m not that fussed on Richard, I do think the Gilmores would be incomplete without him and he does add something of on the family dynamic. I totally agree about Jess being the only one to challenge her and want to understand her on a deeper level. Other than lorelai he’s the only one to call her out on the whole Yale incident!

Dean always get shit on and I can totally understand why cos he was a prick as soon as Jess came into the picture but people love to dismiss Jess's problematic behaviour (attempting to sexually assault Rory - hello??) purely cos they shipped him and Rory so bad. Like hold ALL men accountable please! WE love Lorelai round here though (I support women's rights and wrongs lmao)

Oh I totally think all Rory’s boyfriends have their flaws! I just think Jess is the one who accepts Rory as she is the most and shows the most growth throughout the show. Dean is just red flag central to me because he constant raises his voice when they argue and I get triggered lol 😂

I definitely will! Such a good shout with sex & the city (I’m due a rewatch too ☺️) I’ve actually never seen golden girls lol but I know it’s got a huge cult following. It’s NEVER too late to start Gilmore girls!! Plus if you’re a fan of the other shows I think you’ll really like it ❤️
