Yes, I agree. If someone tells me they didn't like the ending, then I don't consider that a recommendation at all, I consider it a warning! lol

I'd like to see a video on books whose ending ruined the whole book. Like the book Claws. It's a 350 page book about these two middle schoolers who end up trapped in the middle of the forest in Canada and they have to struggle and survive and work and in the last three pages a search helicopter finally sees their fire after a month and he picks them and as the helicopter is taking off and flying away it crashes and kills everyone. The end. I f**king HATE this book. You can tell the author just got tired of writing the story and ended it. Ugh I read that book ten years ago and it still makes me so angry.

I strongly recommend The Emperor's Soul, by Brandon Sanderson. Whenever people talk about Sanderson they talk about Mistborn and Stormlight, but I feel like this little novelette is amazing and it only takes a few hours to read. Go read The Emperor's Soul if you haven't already.

I would suggest The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. It's the series that hooked me on fantasy years ago in middle school. Definitely geared toward a younger audience, but I have such fond memories of it.

Great video! Love the variety. Rebecca is one of my all times favourite. It has one of the most famous opening lines. Although the end is good, my biggest enjoyment was the middle of the book. One of the most frequent gifts i give. Close enough to touch sounds interesting.

I love East!! I‘m studying to be a professional flutist and most of what I remember from reading this in middle school loving how integrated the flute was into the story. Definitely one of the quintessential books that made young me fall in love with fantasy. Apparently a sequel came out a couple years ago called West (of course lmao).

So for books designed for younger audiences that are great enough for consumption as an adult, I recommend, Brandon Mull's Beyonders series and Fablehaven series', as well as Brandon Sandersons book The Rithmatist. All extremely good and enjoy them enough to have picked The Rithmatist as the first edition I had signed by Brandon Sanderson.

You should definitely read It Ends With Us by Coleen Hoover. Its one romance book that had a strong, impactful message. I’m normally not a romance genre kinda girl...but this book woooh!

I read East way back in the day and really liked it! I haven't picked up West, but I've heard it basically backtracks on character development in East and I'm not sure I really like that. I've been meaning to pick up An Unkindness of Magicians. Into the Drowning Deep was such a fun killer mermaid book. Definitely want more of that!

One of my favourite books is Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. I have never heard anyone on booktube so much as mention it. It's from 2006, but still... It's soo good. I highly recommend it!

I finally read Rebecca based off your recommendation and I absolutely loved it! I wish more people read it. I was gagging at certain points with how OBSESSED the narrator was with her husband and how unhealthy their relationship was. I also enjoyed that it was a mystery in the sense that at the beginning of the book the narrator was speaking of Manderly how it’s abandoned and then when in Monte they’re speaking how beautiful it is and it’s reputation that I spent the entirety of the book wondering what could have happened that would have made them move out of such a beautiful estate. I absolutely loved it. I’m now reading Warbreaker and I’m completely engrossed with it after the first sentence. It’s my first Sanderson book so I’m very excited to read the Mistborn Trilogy after this.

I've never thought of I Capture the Castle as a classic before. I know it's older than most books I've read, but I'm also the weirdo who reads Shakespeare for fun. Maybe because the writing style is so much more accessible than books we usually think of as classics? Regardless, it's probably my all time favorite book, and I'm so happy to see it get some love.

One fantasy series that I really like but never see in videos is The Ember in the Ashes. The world it takes place in is based on the Roman Empire, and there is magic-based conflict interwoven with political conflict. It’s a major page-turner, and the main villain is one of my favorite villains. I also wish I saw more Earthsea Cycle. I kind of see a similarity to Earthsea in The Kingkiller Chronicle because they’re both about boy-wizards and there is naming magic, but the worlds and characters are quite different. My third underrated recommendation is The Tales of Alvin Maker by Orson Scott Card. Yes, the Ender guy. This series is part fantasy, part alternate history. It gives a lot to think about while still being fun, and it shows a different side to multiple historical figures.

There's a book series that I have to mention even though it wasn't in the video, but it fits the theme of under water books, that is Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. The first two books are really slow, but no one ever talks about the last three. It seems like people forget Suzanne Collins wrote a series before hunger games.

Given your love of mermaids and sirens, have you read the Mermaid Forest manga? It’s by Rumiko Takahashi and it definitely dips into the darkness of mermaid myths. I believe there are three books to it. I really enjoyed it.

You should look at the book the capture it is about a young owl named soren who gets snatch and is taken to a big castle where orphaned owls go but soren was not a orphan he meets a tiny elf owl named glyfuld the to team up and try to run away but they have some trouble there are is a big series not much people talk about this book

Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly. Recommended by Brandon Sanderson himself in some of his talks. A book I don't really hear much being talked about even though it's really good. I wouldn't even had read it in the first place if I hadn't heard Brandon talked about in a chat with a KZbinr 3 years ago. The author's influence is really evident on Branderson as you progress along the story.

I bought "An Unkindness of Magicians" after your last video on it (The one where you said you rated it too high) and I absolutely loved it! Embarassingly, I read it all in one sitting and them immediately told my mum about it to make her read it (And she's loving it so far too), so I gotta say that I wholeheartedly agree that it should get more attention! I can't wait until the sequel, I wasn't the /biggest/ fan of the ending

Though I don't agree with calling it the adult Harry Potter, the stories are so unalike and just in general the way things work in each universe are so unlike eachother that trying to even generally reference them against eachother just feels really odd to me. It makes me wonder if these people have even read Harry Potter, honestly xD It feels a lot like a magical Hunger Games to me honestly (Though that's just my opinion ofc)

Everyone talks about the Hunger Games trilogy, but an earlier series by Suzanne Collins, called The Underlander Chronicles. It's middle-grade, but I loved, loved, loved it!

As someone who can't read books all the way through I loved Goodbye Perfect. The way they set up the grooming and how their friendship was then to how it was now was well done. And the adults around the main character (expect victoms mom) were good and reasonable. The ending was a bit hit or miss. I remember kinda felt like it was trying to be open to a sequel. One thing that was a bit annoying was the main character's repetitive monologue of, "I don't want to lie but it wasn't my fault what was the big idea I am just trying to be a good friend" and so on and so on. Though, sadly, I did not finish Quiet Kind of Thunder i highly recommend it. Its cute and maked me want to learn BSL. The romance wasn't super fast or too slow and there were other plot points that made it more fleshed out. Overall two solid books.

Here’s a few recs that I don’t hear spoken about a lot. Under Heaven and River Of Stars by Guy Gavriel Kay. The King Raven Trilogy by Stephen Lawhead. Magnus/Wings Of Dawn/whatever it’s been reprinted as, by Sigmund Brouwer. The Robotech novels by Jack McKinney. And lastly, a shameless plug, Sleeper Agent by M. Anthony Harris.

Chime by Franny Billingsley (weird magical alternate history), Once a Witch by Carolyn McCullough (and the sequel - teen girl from family of witches with no obvious powers), Throat by RA Nelson (teen vampire sets up on a NASA base to destroy her sire). I had a blog from 2011-2016 and read 300+ books a year. I could go on forever. Lol

If there’s any manga I highly recommend it’s anything by Junji Ito. His stories are horror but not anything depicted is overly graphic or gory that tend to be in the manga genre (because a lot of horror manga tend to just show an obtuse amount of bloody imagery). I honestly don’t know how to describe it other than very “otherworldly” and “disturbing”. I highly recommend Uzumaki or Gyo by him as a first time read, but he does have several short story collections out at Barnes/Amazon including a retelling of Frankenstein. Word of warning: don’t expect any or all of the characters to be fleshed out. They only serve the purpose to be a victim of whatever the heck is going on in what story it is you’re reading. Even the most flawed individuals in his stories can feel very two dimensional. It’s always the “out-of-this-world” situations that take precedence and will captivate you.

I don't know if you still see the comments on a video posted so long ago, but I would totally recommend the Wolf by Wolf duology, by Ryan Graudin. I barely see anyone talk about these books and they're fantastic! It involves alternative history (the nazis won the war, in this case), so I understand if people are a bit standoffish, but they're SO good! The story is fantastic, the characters are complex, they develop so well, the pacing is thrilling and the writing is gripping. I couldn't recommend it more. I'm in the middle of book 2 right now and unless something really drastic changes, it's set out to be one of my favorite series ever.

Ooh I have a bunch of these. In no particular order: _Skulduggery Pleasant_ by Derek Landy. It's about a girl called Stephanie Edgely, whose uncle Gordon, a famous and wealthy author, dies suddenly. Much to the rest of the family's shock, he leaves his house, possessions, and entire fortune, to Stephanie. Events conspire to leave her alone in Gordon's house after a flood blocks the roads, and a man breaks into the house searching for a "key." Stephanie is rescued from the man by Gordon's friend, the detective Skulduggery Pleasant, who just so happens to be a reanimated skeleton. The series is technically middle grade, but someone gets nailed to a chair in book four, and the series only gets darker from there, so I think that's misleading. It's my favourite series of all time. Massively popular in Ireland, the UK, Australia and parts of Europe, but virtually unknown in the US because back in 2007 the American publishers lost confidence in it and botched the release, leading to only the first three books being published. The whole series just recently got a new American release though, and we just wrapped up the latest arc of the series, so it's the perfect time to hop on the train. _The Kane Chronicles_ by Rick Riordan. Booktube loves _Percy Jackson_ , _Heroes of Olympus_ , _Magnus Chase_ and _The Trials of Apollo_ , but for some reason neglects Rick's Egyptian series. Which is a shame because it's just as good. _Timekeeper_ by Tara Sim is an alternate history historical fantasy romance set in a world where time is controlled by magic clock towers. When the clocks break, time breaks, and when the clocks stop, time stops completely, leaving that portion of the world inaccessible. It follows Danny Hart, a clock mechanic - someone with the ability to see and repair the strands of time. Danny's father is trapped in a town where time has stopped, and Danny is desperate to prove himself so he can be assigned to the project to build a new clock tower and free the town, which has never been attempted before. Unfortunately, Danny is suffering from PTSD after an accident, and the lead mechanic is unwilling to give him any serious responsibilities. Danny is assigned to fix Colton tower in Enfield, where he falls in love with a clock spirit, which is illegal. Meanwhile terrorists are bombing clock towers and stopping time. The first book is fluffy and adorable, with a pretty good plot, but the rest of the trilogy is super complex and dark. It's in strong competition with _Skulduggery_ for my favourite series. _City of Spires_ by Claudie Arsenault. Set in the city of Isandor, a free city that stands against the brutal and domineering Myrian Empire. The Myrians have an enclave in the city as part of an arrangement, and the Myrian leader Avenazar uses this as an excuse to get up to terrible things. No one has the power to stand against him without breaking the agreement, so he pretty much has carte blanche to do whatever he likes. Lord Diel Dathirii is done with letting the Myrians run wild, and wants to unite the great houses of Isandor to drive the Myrians out of the city, but first he has to contend with all the old grudges between the families. Meanwhile, Lord Arathiel Brasten finally returns to Isandor after a century of being trapped in a place where time doesn't flow. Everything has changed and he can't exactly go home, so he takes shelter in the slums of Isandor. The series deals heavily with themes of class, race and sexuality. _Wonders of the Invisible World_ by Christopher Barzak is about a boy called Aidan Lockwood growing up in the small, sleepy town of Temperance, Ohio. Aidan is just kind of drifting through life. He has no friends or real interests or ambitions. Then his best childhood friend, Jarrod, returns from his life in Cleveland, and starts talking about things that Aidan doesn't remember, but definitely should, such as the man in the black suit that only Aidan could see. The two of them team up to recover Aidan's memories, and along the way they uncover the history of the Lockwood family. It's my favourite book ever.

That ending 😑 BUT she has a prequel novella called Rolling In The Deep that I just read (only available on kindle) that is the story of what happened on The Atargatis, real time. You should read it! Super good too!

I doubt you'll see this since it is so old, but I recommend you check out The Devil and the Deep, a horror anthology edited by Ellen Datlow. Mira Grant (AKA Seanan McGuire) has an amazing short story in that collection. There are several other really impressive stories in there too centering around the ocean and water. That said, not every story in the collection was a gem.

A Boy and his Dog at the End of the World by C. A. Fletcher outside of me and my bestie i haven't seen a single person talk about this book and it's really sad because it's such a good book.

If you're looking for more mermaid/siren books books, you should try the Water Trilogy by Kara Dalkey. It isn't dark, but the storyline is interesting. It has court intrigue, different types of mermaids, and is Arthurian/ Lady of the Lake inspired.

Based on your love for An Unkindness of Magicians (which I read and enjoyed, based on your recommendation), you should really try The Night Circus, by Erica Morgenstern. It's like a modern fairy tale, with beautiful aesthetics and ideas throughout. I think you'd enjoy it!

The Night Circus is a far better comparison for An Unkindness of Magicians. Lev Grossman's The Magicians series is more of a grown up Harry Potter.

Mira Grant is great, her Newsflesh trilogy is fantastic. The mermaid one is the first in a series so maybe you’ll get the ending you want later :)

...I can't be the only one who never had a crush on a teacher. I mean I rarely get crushes anyway but teachers? They're.. either like parent/ older sibling or like a jailer, most of my teachers..were jailers.. and they know your weakness it is scary.

i think the Magicians' trilogy by Lev Grossman is underrated as a series (It does have a tv show but the tv show is meh compared to the books and the viewer doesn't get the great message of anti escapism and being a "hero") It is similar to an Unkindness of Magicians, in the details of their worlds and being presented as the adult Harry Potter ( and Narnia, in the case of the magicians' trilogy). I think that why it is so underrated. People go into the books with ideas from hp and narnia and judge it for subverting those book tropes. Even though it is supposed to be original. Also people hated the main character and quit the series, but that is the point of the book series? He is supposed to be gray and then evolve as a person as he grow up. I would love your thoughts on this series and i would highly recommend, despite others' criticism.

I read El Defo,in 5th grade for Battle of the books and loved it, It was my first graphic novel. I personally liked the ending, not my favorite but still enjoyed the ending
