Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Near the end of his life, Joseph displays his hard-earned wisdom. He shows us that we need to leave all righting of wrongs to God; we must see God’s providing hand in man’s malice; and we must never repay evil with evil, but instead we must meet evil with forgiveness, and even affection.

Joseph is a key example of how God knows all of the different possibilities and ways we can never imagine; and how God ultimately uses everything for the good! The pride which Joseph held doesn't justify what his brothers did towards him but even such is used by God as part of a process of making Joseph more humble and understanding. Despite being prideful and arrogant from a worldly sense, Joseph comes to show humility to God and recognize how he belongs to God rather than anyone or any other cause. Joseph saw himself as part of a greater cause and wisely understood how God utilizes all things for the good of those who believe in Him. Our culture tells us the very opposite of this as culture wrongly portrays us as belonging to ourselves rather than God. Many people view the rights to do anything we desire being a necessity to even find the meaning of life. The concepts surrounding individual liberties & rights integrated with the pursuit of happiness yourself have become like a religion in Western society. Christians are told the very opposite of such and they are bought at a price, belonging to not themselves but God. Christians are told that converting to Christianity isn't just making a profession of Faith but acknowledging how we fully belong to God as He bought us at a price. Joseph chooses to trust God's plans and His sovereignty rather than himself and demonstrates how God has used the evil situation to make Him a much stronger and more humble person even though his brothers' actions are completely wrong. All of us are merely actors and actresses in God's grand scheme whether we are believers or not. We witness how God ultimately used Joseph to save the Israelite people as he became their intermediary and support when many migrated into Egypt following record famines & tribulations along with how the experiences ended with Joseph becoming humbled and prosperous at the same time. The once proud and prideful Joseph handles this role with humility and service while also crediting God for how the situation could be best handled. The very opposite of pride is humility which Joseph shows. All believers are assured and promised that everything happening sometimes doesn't make sense or seem possible for any good but that God works all things for the good of those who believe in Him! Believers must keep their Faith in such but also in a way which acknowledges how God's sense of good is sometimes beyond what we could ever imagine and how His plans are not visible to us at times. It's not only important to trust that God works all things for the good of those who believe in Him, but also to acknowledge that He does such in ways we can't comprehend. Any determination and interpretation are God's work ultimately rather than people and trying to rely on our understanding is foolish. Timothy Keller rightfully acknowledges how the fastest way to become like satan indeed arises from people trying to become like God or trying to put themselves in the place of God. Becoming like satan is ultimately nothing more than replacing God in our lives which includes trying to understand and/or dictate His reasoning.

John Kim I’m originally from Canada 🇨🇦 but now live in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺. This country has become secular and it’s hard to find a good church so I listen to sermons online, and glad to hear your another Tim fan! I enjoyed reading your comment and it’s apparent you are walking with the Lord and may he continue to bless you John

@@sophietsafcas6371 Wow.... Thank You so much for the response! First of all, so great to see Christians in Canada and Australia where they are a superminority although that is true in the Western world and anywhere for that matter as well. How did you wind up in Australia of all places? I was looking at your last name and thought you's perhaps be from Greece or Eastern European areas.... At least that is what I felt you would be from! And do you listen to pastors other than Tim Keller now!?

(2 Corinthians 5:18-21) "And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; {19} To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. {20} Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. {21} For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

The title is slightly misleading. He never touched on reconciliation but only forgiveness. Reconciliation is not automatic, or transitive to forgiveness. Forgiveness requires only 1 person and God. Reconciliation requires both parties, with the person who has committed the offense to acknowledge their wrongdoing and being repentant for it. If the offending party cannot or will not apologize, or even acknowledge any wrongdoing, there cannot be full reconciliation. For example, if a parent abuses their child for years, and the child distances themselves from the parent in adulthood for their safety, but forgives the parent for that abuse, the relationship can’t just go back to normal, because it requires both parties to acknowledge the wrongdoing, and the transgressor to be repentant. There also will be time spent to rebuild trust.
