Listening to this during Holy Week. Jesus was crushed with sorrow yet "for the joy that was set before HIM he endured the cross". We are part of that joy. Think about it: He so joyed in the prospect of us becoming a part of HIS eternal kingdom that he was willing to suffer and die. This is the Gospel. Thank you for another Christ centered message. Pastor Keller is a blessing.

God is just too good; my mind cannot even comprehend His ultimate goodness. And so blessed thru Christ are we that He is the answer to all our eternal needs and questions. Thank You so, so much Father.

Living hope!

The whole sermon is wonderful, but the last 15 minutes are pure gold. The foundation of our character isn’t our temperament, it’s our hope. If our hope is in earthly things, it will crumble. What is our "living hope," that is kept perfectly for us in heaven? To be with God and have all the love and honor and blessings that Jesus has. How do I activate this living hope? Look to Jesus and LOVE him for what he has won for me. What did he suffer and die for? What is Jesus’ living hope (“who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross…”)? It's not getting back the glory and crown he already had. It’s US. It’s the joy of bringing us into his arms. Jesus' living hope of saving us and enveloping us in his love enabled him to endure the cross "despising its shame." I need to let that melt my heart, and that will make me live for him, for this living hope which no earthly person or suffering can take away.

Becoming "born again" is necessary to become a Christian and something we must realize is done through God rather than ourselves. Genuine Christianity isn't something we make some small changes to convert into with an existing worldview or adding Jesus on top of a basis of belief in a higher power which are two common ways people view it. Becoming Christian involves a radical reexamination of every aspect and acceptance of a very different worldview beyond radical. Jesus's message demands all of us and for followers to commit by beginning again in Him. He makes it clear that He is there to reshape and takeover every aspect of our lives! Every other religion and worldview is significantly different; and truly accepting Jesus requires you to change the very definition of yourself, your perceived rights, your worldview, and your future. Many people wrongfully think Jesus is another teacher to add onto a list of many or the greatest one but Jesus made it clear that truly being "born again" is accepting Him as Lord and Savior rather than just teacher; and that He must become everything. You must basically start all over again with every aspect of life, something Jesus makes clear to everyone. And all of our future hope must be in Jesus and how He truly works all things together for the good of those who believe in Him. More specific examples are shown through the rich young ruler and Nicodemus being told how they must be "born again" and start over in Jesus. Nicodemus asks how a man can be born again. Jesus makes it clear that it must be done through God and allowing Him to work within us along with how it's really like God giving you a new birth. Putting hope in Jesus means placing our hopes, expectations, and dreams in Him only and nothing else. Many people in our culture have popularized having a pre-existing worldview along with the notion of God then putting Jesus wherever He fits and often it is shown by many people who live their lives as they please and proclaim they accept Jesus as only Savior. Such is especially popular due to our culture worshipping self discovery and happiness. Yet Jesus makes it clear that such is serving more than Him and that a man may not serve more than one master ever and that it's not possible to serve more than one master ultimately. He makes it explicitly clear that we must make this choice and even not making a decision is serving another master ultimately. And for those placing trust in Jesus, the journey makes the person realize how it's easier and harder than imagined at the same time. Such people truly realize the meaning of how God does everything for us yet demands everything as well!
