What a shame they demolished the medieval buildings around the Chapel. They were historical/monumental themselves. They formed a court as to protect the sacred place. Now it is surrounded by modern buildings of a court of justice. What blasphemy!

Modern (mostly XIX century buildings) but monumental! In addition, let's remember that, reportedly, in the Medieval age until the middle of XIX century, those streets were in the mud and dirt, practically, due in part to the lack of water and sanity at inhabitants' disposal at that time. And all the streets were very narrow and the buildings made of wood, therefore vulnerable to fires and the demolition of these "maisons à colombages" was decided as a way to avoid large fires and other problems, taking into consideration that in 1666, the Great Fire of London occured. Maybe a few of these structures should have been preserved there as a matter to remember, in a quaint way perhaps, those times. :)

What's great is that here they show the original 13th century Rayonnant gothic rose window which was replaced around 1485 with the current flamboyant style rose window
