Great collection! I'm in awe. But Jan Garbarek is from Norway. Nordic, yes, but more precisely Norwegian! :) As well as Terje Rypdal, Arild Andersen and the rest of his crew on that album. All of them are still alive and kicking and still playing all over the place.

I think Chick Corea's "Is" period is his best. They released a double CD of the "Is" sessions. Mwandishi is my all-time favorite Herbie Hancock period--which I believe was a little before the time "Sextant" was released. "Crossings" has always been my favorite Hancock album, even though I heard "Headhunters" first. Herbie Hancock is the best Rhoads player of all time, and then Joe Zawinal. Shit, now I have to go out and buy some of those albums you showed; especially "The Art of the Improvisers" and "Cosmic Music"!

@dereckvon Man I tell you during the early 90's there was a lot of great Jazz artists coming through the Bay Area. Pharoah played here a lot, in fact I'm pretty certain he lived in Oakland for a while. There was a really great venue called Koncepts Cultural gallery which would put on the most stellar shows.. Pharoah, Sonny Sharrock, Sun Ra, Billy Harper, etc.. those were just some of the highlights for me..There's actually a DVD floating around of the Sun Ra show I saw there. Need to get that..

Another great vid, Dereck!! Definitely a jazz fan myself, though much of my jazz collection is on CD. In fact, after watching this I had to get out the "Live-Evil" Miles recording, great stuff for sure! Love Miles Davis to death.....have at least 25 different Miles albums, & that ain't nearly enough! Monk, Coltrane, etc., excellent. I need to find those Herbie Hancock albums, haven't heard those. There is SOO much jazz out there to be discovered........

Very nice. I have never seen that Miles Live or that Coltrane before. Lovely! That Herbie and Monk is incredible as well. Those comments at the end were spoken very well too. That to me is the essence of a vibration that creates what we call notes and music! Simply question we should ask oursleves... Does that vibration and calling out of that music cause things in you to answer back? If the the answer is yes.....YOU BUY IT! lol

This brings back memories, as I saw quite a few of the musicians mentioned here between 1975 and 1995 at various San Francisco Bay Area venues: Keystone Korner, Bach Society, Kimball's. Yoshi's (Claremont Avenue), Koncepts Cultural Gallery, Radio Valencia. I feel very lucky to have seen so many great musicians in intimate venues.

Hi Dereck, yet again some great info. Yes, I'm new to the VC. But only new to the video/KZbin side. I have been a record collector/record lover/record dealer/record hunter for decades. But life has given me some hard blows and I have lost more than half my vinyl collection through the years. BUt enough about me. You mentioned the Chick Corea album, "IS". I noticed that the "Complete IS Sessions" is on iTunes. his combines the "Sundance" album as well. Cheers for now! Rob.

@dereckvon Oh I knew you had some WSQ based off of what you've shown so far :) Yeah they were indeed the shit! Saw them a few times in the 90's just riveting, amazing what kind of sound just a quartet of saxophones can deliver. And I saw David Murray a couple of times on his own as well. the guys a beast! One of my faves for sure.. Also Sonny Sharrock "Ask The Ages" is one of the best albums ever made. But sadly never released on vinyl. Saw him with Pharoah Sanders, life changing experience.

Good selection of jazz for sure. Herbie and Sextant is hard to beat for psych jazz. Yeah, that Live Miles is pretty smoking. Never heard of that Corea album either or that Coltrane. Looks like you got some Advent speaker (I have some too).

Man you have one amazing collection.. These videos just keep getting better each time.. "Flood" is one of THE best live recordings ever! That show captured that band at their peak IMO. Paul Jackson & Mike Clark=just mind boggling..! And YES everybody should get their Monk on!! That Coltrane piece...sooo jealous. Love Don Cherry, another great that I was fortunate to see before he passed. Do you have any World Saxophone Quartet? or any related pieces i.e. Dave Murray, etc..? I bet you do.. :)
