My 2 piece band has released 2 albums, about to release our 3rd in December 2016, and already has up to a 7th album already written with an 8th now beginning. We make no money. We spend about $1,200 -$1,500 an album for studio time and give away our music for free. We have no ambitions to get signed. We don't really play live shows. Our goal is simply to release music that we believe is worth listening to and voicing our political views. Just thought I'd share our testimony with you all so that people know that bands such as mine exist out there, quietly writing music. My band's name is "Nightmare of Sovereignty".

I, myself, am learning on where to go. Truly, independent grass roots label? Or do I go and find a label who can get this to the next level. …I feel networking and distribution is key and is the big hurdle.

My conclusion after watching this video is that the DIY method is too elitist. It´s like "if you have money and time, you can do". How is it possible to have time? With money in your bank account supplying your basic necessities. In the end of the day, this method says that the rich can do and the poor cannot. This discussion of course changes from country to country. I live in an underdevelopment country, and it imposes us some conditions that someone from Europe or the US will never understand. It´s freaking insane! We can´t buy nice instruments because it´s too expensive, we don´t have places do play, and if we do, people won´t go to see us. Why? Because the equipments sucks, the house sucks, and due to our education, that sucks, our bands are never critical, and they suck. DIY is a symptom of a world where you´re the boss of yourself, and if you can´t do something, fuck off, not my problem! Music industry sucks. What I think we have to do? Fight for a better industry! A more supportive one, leaded by people that understand the force and importance of our craftsmanship! Art saves people from deceases, sadness, put them in a group which shares some vision of life, can be therapeutical, provide reflections about what life can be... I mean... it´s fucking important! We love it and we are here of it! We just can´t be disrespected!

Nowadays, labels sign everything. It seems they dont care about quality. the important is the fashion because it sells better. its normal, they want to preserv their profit. but in the other side we have new artists wanting to play, fueled with metallica, pantera, ac/dc dreams, they know that they have to sacrifice many things to be in a certain position. Fact...... i know many huge quality bands that quit from nuclear or century because at the end of the tour they had bills to pay! they had to work and many of them are from countries that support artists in many ways like in scandinavia countries. When you have to work to support your musical career you just wont be an artist in full time. In the and you will be an hobby artist or you simply quit it! labels dont respect work, they just see profits. its simple..... record your stuff, go out in the internet and spread your work out! if you have the thing..... of course we metal fans will be happy to help, and go to your gigs to conclude... the main business of a record label is to watch a band potential, help it rise and profit with it! why is that man saying that its difficult to see if a band have the potential or not? isnt that his work??? he should be the professional in his business..... again, i say.... you are your own label! if you start something, end it! it sucks to do everything but its our dream to compose, to create music, listen it and build more!

Most labels anymore are only good for distribution anymore, only the bigger ones offer tour support, most tell you ok, you record and mix and master your album then come to us, its like for what? We did all the work,,,, just so they can cash in on your hard work, you dont need labels anymore, you have the internet, you can do everything, yourself now days

Before I started GOML, I was charging $300/day. A well rehearsed band can get an album done over a weekend.
