Record Setting Foundry Session - Opening Day 2023

In this first casting session of the year, I managed to get the process down for my permanent molds of the pelican token, and round stock. A total of nine pours were accomplished for each mold. I also got to use my new "full metal jacket"! Now I just need to get the hat.

I am curious if you used a candle to coat the token mold with soot if it would behave better.

I considered using a propane or acetylene torch for the same effect, but I was actually getting a good amount of soot just from holding it above the top of the furnace during preheat.

@@greensnmachines interesting. I did not notice but is your furnace oil or propane? I am thinking of making a waste oil furnace but it seems like it's way more complex than propane.
