Does this work with Elgato Game Capture HD (not the 4K capture program, just the original one) ? Also, is the output on the PC going to be in 1920x1080? Cause i might get one and do smaller indie game videos using the steam deck but I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble or not.

in case you didnt know, OBS itself will convert MKV files to mp4. dont need handbrake

This is exactly what I'm doing. I put my Steam Deck in desktop mode and it's plugged into my Elgato HD60S. It reads my capture card as an external display. I'm also using something called Barrier to share my mouse and keyboard from my gaming PC with my Steam Deck. Now I can use my Steam Deck in docked mode like a proper linux machine through my Elgato software. lol

@@sgtquencher1002 hang on is there a steam deck dock anywhere in that equation? I read that like your plugging straight it into the capture without the dock? Usc C to HDMI? Does that even work?

@@SkillzNGameplay Agreed! In addition I have a third party dock from Amazon that clips onto the back of the Deck instead of having to dock it inside the dock all the time. That way I can use the Deck as a controller with all the benefits of using the controller hardware that's built into the deck.

I've had consistent audio recording issues when using my Elgato with my Steam Deck. It doesn't work "great." It will randomly disable audio recording even though its outputting audio from the device.

I've had that issue as well except with my Xbox as the device being captured, I think it's an OBS issue related to encoding bottlenecks My solution was to unplug the Elgato from the PC running OBS and plugging it back in, as rebooting the Elgato itself seems to fix whatever is wrong with the OBS source for a seemingly random amount of time

@@QuirkyKitsune I think in my case it's an issue with Elgato, yea, rather than the deck or the usb-c hub or the cable. It happens on rare occasion with console inputs too or it will have bad crackling for example.

I am plugged into my steam deck with a usb-c to hdmi adapter into my elgato hd60 s+ straight into my pc and monitor. I get a picture for one second and then it goes out. I have tried plugging in other devices and it works just fine. I have no idea what to do.

Is the usb c hub required if you want to capture gameplay with sound or can I just use the USB C to Hdmi cable and hook it up to my capture card?

Is there a way to use my PC obs to capture the pure gameplay of the steam deck like i would do for anything else.... Whenever i plug in my steam deck it turns the screen off and forces me to play on the pc and not my steam deck hand held...

I have my Deck plugged into an external monitor and that's what I play on while I capture. OBS runs on my desktop on another monitor to capture the footage

@@JDNasty No problem! I'm not sure it's possible in game mode, but if you switch to desktop mode and mirror the Steam Decks display you should be able to play on the handheld screen still.

Yeah seems to be an issue that I hope they can implement a resolution for... Defeats the purpose to stream/record on gameplay on a pc but can't game in game mode like an actual console. 2 years later still I'm still searching for the resolution lol @@SteelLodge

Do you need that hub? I currently am using the Elgato hd60 x without using a hub. For some reason obs is not recording sound

That was pretty good, since I don’t have my other computer I think I will keep going that way play on steam deck and record with my game laptop I won’t try to do all just on my laptop cause that just will make my laptop die sooner as I don’t want to put so much stress that I already put too, also I play more on my steam deck now more than my pc 😂 😂

My elgato wont pick up the image and idk why?? It just says no signal. It will pick up my switch but not my steam deck. Help DX

🤦🏽‍♂Why are there sooo many videos like this... I honestly think 90% of ppl that have the Steam Deck and the Elgato know how to capture gameplay. The question is how can we capture game play and still use the Steam Decks display to game on... Anything else is like any other console... How do you capture gameplay and while in Game Mode playing off the Steam Deck's display vs the External Display.
