Please don't be biased. This microphone is comparable to the sm58. Not because its a china made, you condemn it. The xm8500 has been used by some artist to record quality songs.

No it is not comparable at all, the sm58 beats it easily in everything but price. I have both so I know the difference first hand.

I love my 8500 on close mic, high gain guitar amps. I can really crank the presence without it being shrill. Less eq after the fact is better in my dirt wizardry I call a recording process.

Looking forward to hearing this! I tried the one mic SM58 Challenge myself recently and it came out terrific. Was thinking about it with this Behringer but you got me thinking this might be a challenge! Great channel!

My experience with the XM8500 is they are great for speaking and live singing whether soft or loud… We use them frequently for indoor and outdoor events at our church(We have very lively music and singing)…I’ve found they work best with a mic cover slipped on them…Solid and sturdy…Haven’t tried them in a studio setting though.

I mean yeah its 25 dollars its not meant for serious studio stuff, just buy a cheaper pop filter for it. I been using mine as a live stream vocal mic for over 10 years & its still in perfect shape. It's got some really boosted 4k which is probably giving you the pick sound issue (gives me voice sibilance issues). My main issue with it is that i have a lower voice and its kinda muddy down there before EQ. Since im using a pop filter i actually take the cap off the microphone to give it a little more clarity and open-ness. The real point about this microphone is that there is nothing at all in this price range that gets even close to this For people who just need a microphone to talk and sing into for recreation I think this is the one

Interesting. By the way when you go off axis for plosives, try tilting the mic so it's pointing at your mouth. You'll retain the sound of the mic much better.

I got one, and in my opinion, as an amateur is perfect.

I disagree with what he's saying here. For starters, sing sideways (90 degrees to the mic) but close, and your breath will pass in front of the mic, leaving no pop, but your voice will be picked up. Don't sing in front of the mic, parallel to it. Obviously, as demonstrated in this video, that doesn't work. Try singing just in front of the mic, but with your breath passing sideways, in front of the mic. About his tone: he has a naturally nasally voice. I don't know if that is what hes trying to EQ out, but if so, that is kind of a mistake (John Lennon had a nasally voice, and it worked great for him. Work with what you have.) This is like trying to make a single coil pickup sound like a humbucker. They are just built to sound different. Yes, this mic would require some EQ, but nothing that couldn't be dialed in rather quickly (I use an XM8500 on gigs.) The XM8500 is a good mic. It has more mids, than the SM58. EQ could solve that problem to a large degree. It also has less high end than the SM58, which is good for sibilance control. As far as micing an acoustic guitar with it, it's a vocal mic ! Addendum: for people that are interested, here's a very short quick demo of another cheap and cheerful Behringer dynamic mic: The XM1800s. kzbin.infoGXwteBZZTCw

This is a really fascinating and instructive video that brought up a lot of issues that I hadn't anticipated. And by the way, from the vocal snippets shared here your vocals sounded a lot like Scott Stapp of Creed.
