What do you mean when at 1:10 you say that you're gonna want to transfer the load from your amp head? I'm not that smart with this stuff and don't wanna blow anything up. Any help is appreciated. Killer sound btw!
@ChrisAllenCombs2 жыл бұрын
As I understand it regarding tube amps like I have, The amp’s output needs to go somewhere and the speaker acts as a “load” that gives it a place to go. In the absence of this load, your amplifier is prone to damage. You might end blowing up your transformer

yes they are. I got rid of mine. Instantly regretted it. replaced with Apollo Twin X to down size and do some location stuff. Apollo Twin X is surprisingly nice, BUT just not anywhere near the smoothness and space in the high frequencies. The Apollo does have a pretty interesting and nice low mid thing happening. I still miss the Apogee though :/

I have a 1969 fender bassman head with only a "speaker" output and an "ext speaker" output. Would I plug this into my "ext speaker" while leaving my cab plugged in to the normal out?? your set up sounds great man.
@ChrisAllenCombs4 жыл бұрын
thanks! Not sure about the bassman. To be on the safe side I would just plug head into RNDI and Thru to speaker cab. It seems the ext is parallel but not sure. I read where depending on the year the transformer inside the bassman could be negatively affected if you down load the ohms properly. Maybe read up on that. so, again I would just bassman to RNDI and then back into speakers.

Hey Chris thanks for this post. I actually was interested in guitar tone through an n72 preamp, and I got it. Nice licks as well. Thought I might have recognized a bit of Michael Hedges at one point in there somewhere?

@ChrisAllenCombs4 жыл бұрын
Lucas Vratovic unfortunately no. You have to send signal to speaker through the thru put. I just put my cabinet in a closet in a different room with long speaker cable. Def cheaper alternative then a power soak box. The uad ox box looks to be nice but pricey.

@@ChrisAllenCombs Hallo! Yes the 48V is engaged
@ChrisAllenCombs2 жыл бұрын
@@Amir-RockstarT Its hard to know. Again, check 48v, toggle switch is set to instrument, and that you your cables are properly seated and working. Guitar goes into 'In" and then Out of the back to your preamp. again all of these are obvious but something I miss obvious things :)

can you record the real amp cabinet simultaneously as well or does it defeat the output to the physical cab?
@nathanprague20862 жыл бұрын
Hi there great video. So i have the same question, I want the amp to be totally quiet and get the neve quality DI. So Im looking at the Bugera PS1 Power Soak Box. Whats the signal flow to get my amp signal to protools keeping the cab totally quiet. Its a mesa boogie tube amp combo. Thank you.
@nvinceable178 ай бұрын
If you want the amp to be completely quiet then what you really need is a reactive load box rather than an attenuator. With the RNDI set to SPEAKER mode, you would just take the speaker out of the amp head into the RNDI IN and take the RNDI THRU output into the reactive load box. The reactive load box completely replaces your speaker cab and the load it puts on your amp's output transformer, allowing for completely silent use of the amp head. An attenuator, on the other hand, is meant to be used when you still want to play through your real cab, just at a lower volume.

Where exactly do the speaker cables go from DI to amp head? I do not want to plug it in the wrong place and blow up my amp so I want to make sure I'm doing it right.
@ChrisAllenCombs4 жыл бұрын
TheVoltWithin make sure it is set to speaker. Out of amp head into input of rndi then speaker cable from thru to speaker. Then output to interface :). Double check manual but that should be it.

Hey great video. Can you explain how you're not hearing the amp in the room? The spaker thru bypases the actual cab? How would this work with a combo amp? Thank you!
@ChrisAllenCombs7 жыл бұрын
Depends on the amp. My amp has a separate cab so I go amp speaker out to rndi to cab in. I usually mic the amp so the volume is not an issue. If I do not want to hear the amp and just the plugin I put the cab into a different room.
@christiancamargo3364 жыл бұрын
How do I know where the output is on my amp. Is it an emulated output or a return output from the effects loop?
@ChrisAllenCombs4 жыл бұрын
Christian Camargo I come out of my speaker output on my amp. It is my only option. I guess you could come out of the send on fx loop but that would most likely bypass the power tube section of amp which is part of the sound I believe you would essentially only be outputting the preamp section of the amp which may not be that satisfying. But I really don’t know that answer.

Omg man this sounds awesome! Man im looking for a solution for going direct with my amp, but since I use SS amp not Tubes ones i haven't found a REactive loader that would work with SS amp, I Know that SS amps dont need a Load so does this would work for a speaker out of any Solid State amp and then to IRs loader pedal?
@ChrisAllenCombs6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Rodriguez i love this thing. Offsetting the load to the cab works for me as I mic my amp as well. This would work great with ss amp as well. Just need ir impulses. I am also digging s-gear plugin for just straight up di action. The best I’ve heard so far for a plugin
@jonathanrodriguez55846 жыл бұрын
Hey Broken Bird, So I have some doubts, if I plug a SS amp speaker out to this Neve Designs DI, since this doestnt have a volume I cant attenuate the output level right? Its gonna be as loud I would have the amp Master volume?
@ChrisAllenCombs6 жыл бұрын
right, cant attenuate with the RNDI. What ever gain you set the amp to feeds that signal to the RNDI. The RNDI can handle upto a 1000 watt amp so you should be fine. On the website it does say to check with your Solid state amp model to make sure it does not need to offload to a speaker. Generally, this isn't a problem but to by safe I would double check.
