@cuerdasoxidas The interface has 10 stereo pairs of outputs in addition to the headphone outs. So we just used two of those sent to headphone amps.

Hey Graham! I have a quick question, what did you use to distribute the headphones to everyone? Does your interface have 4 headphone outputs or did you use an external source?

@psavolaitube I processed normally. Ironically, I had to over-dub some of the vocals later in the studio with an NT1a because the remaining drum leakage in the vocal mic was killing the drum sound in the mix. Did full LCR panning on this yes.

@soundofsoul1 Make sure you have the latest drivers and MixControl software. Are you daisy chaining your Saffire with a hard drive at all? That gave me some trouble at one point. Also, updating to a newer free dot release of Pro Tools can help sometimes.

The least I have done is 2 inputs. 1 for bass, one for guitar and a room mic (X/Y or M/S for the drums) Usually I do 3 inputs to mic up the drums and one for bass and guitar (via mic input not mic'ing the amp). But if there are vox (not often though) then remove one tom mic and use an X/Y mic to get two toms as a stereo track that you can split later if you wish. I don't use an audio interface - I use the ZOOM H6. It does have audio interface mode but I prefer to be able to use it impromtu without needing a computer/laptop etc right thee, no need for it at all with this recorder! We also use a ZOOMh2N as a room mic/the drum mics if it is not proper mic'ed up. Very similar way of recording, but I always do it bare bones and we jam/record every time live like this. Line out recording is looked down upon for guitars/bass etc but that with a bit of bleed from a room mic that is for the X/Y or M/S drum mic can add that mic-ed amp tone easily plus adding depth by having the line out recording there.

Hi Graham, Totally love all your videos. Thanks man. Since you used sm57 on vocals (due to drum leakage) so what effect did that have later on vocal eq's ,compressing and so forth compared to vocals done with say NT1A ? Sounds that you used LCR-panning on the mix, did you go fully "orthodox" or make any exceptions ?

I record my 4 piece band (2 guitars, bass drums and 3 vocals) at live shows with 8 tracks. mainly because I only have 8 input tape alesis ADAT. We're a retro band, It works and we have more tracks than the bands we are copying had in the late 50s early 60s.

Hi, Great video Graham, just 2 quick questions, maybe a silly one, how are the headphones connected for everyone to be in sync and hear each other? Also, what interface are you using? Thanks
@entryx3
@entryx3 9 жыл бұрын
It´s pretty easy. You need an headphone amplifier with enough outputs for the band and the signal is just coming from t headphone out from the interface so everyone hears everyone through each headphone. Well that would be my technique and I think it´s the easiest one.
@Sapdos2
@Sapdos2 9 жыл бұрын
Lil G Maybe you could just connect the let's say 8 headphones to the line outputs of your interface (which in this case was a Focusrite that has 8 inputs and 8 line outputs). Also this interface comes with a "software" where you can easily send different mixes to each output (headphones).

@recordingrevolution It's hard to see in the vid what they actually are. From the size and shape i was just guessing. they sound pretty good. I like using my sm81's but I also use ADK A-51's cause I only have 2 81's and use them on Hat and snare bottom alot. I'm looking for another matched set of mics to use as overheads. My favorite for OH is 414's but I only have them when I'm tracking in other [laces since i don't own any. i will have to look into the HM-1's

that's something that's usually done in the mixing phase (which means after the song has been recorded) they're doing a "live studio recording" not a "live stage recording" and the reason im mentioning that is usually everything is pre-set during a "live stage recording" which means the effects and panning and everything would already be set, whenever you record in a studio set up with DAW software, it's best to leave the mixing for after the recording, if you don't and then you won't be able to change it later on.
