I just got back into recording music after 20 years and walked into a guitar center where the idiot sold me one of everything that wouldn't work. He sold me the iRig for Guitars (no pre-amp), XLR /TRS, and a desktop mic stand that could only hold 3 lbs. I was so confused as to why my new Scarlett Solo would not provide input to iPad until I realized jack two is for guitars, etc. Thanks for this video, you made it very easy for a newbie to digital recording (I come from bands when we recorded on four track. Thank you poster!

What they don’t tell you is that if you are using an iPad and GarageBand the headphone socket won’t work immediately out the box if you are using headphones at the front, so the trick is to hold down the 48v button for five seconds, pull the power cable out, put the power cable back in so there is power, and once again pull the power out. This should enable the iPad and GarageBand to use the monitor function so you can use the headphone jack properly.

That's right. Scarlett is primarily designed for macOS and Windows PC and will initially be detected as a Mass Storage Device as it ships in 'Easy Start Mode' to make the process of creating an account and accessing the bundled content, as quick and easy as possible. Those who do not want to connect Scarlett to a computer first can manually remove the device from 'Easy Start Mode' using the phantom power button as described. This is covered in the User Guide, apologies if you had not been aware of this. John // Focusrite UK 🇬🇧

@@ronabrums1506 I used the onboarding that was available out of the box, using the site that you use to download focusrite control, after you register what product you have it takes you through the steps. I was intending to use iPad pro from the start, and when I got to that stage the onboarding told me I either had to connect it to a PC first, or use the manual activation. Hi - what about setting up for a live zoom session? With the scarlet and sharing music to lead a meditation?
@FocusriteHelp
@FocusriteHelp 9 ай бұрын
At this time it does not seem possible for internal audio to be shared over Zoom via the iOS app. Using Zoom on a Mac or Windows computer however allows you to share microphone audio from your interface, as well as high-quality, stereo computer audio. Please let us know if this helps or if we can answer additional questions.

@@FocusriteHelp thank you for your response - we are not trying to 'share iPad sound' we have the music connected via bluetooth to the Scarlet itself and can hear the music in the headphones wired into the Scarlet however the people on the zoom call cannot hear the music. Original sound is enabled in zoom. The microphone connected to the Scarlet works great and can heard by the people in zoom.

Are you sharing the music from a separate device from your iPad? Scarlett's do not have Bluetooth connectivity, only our Vocasters do. If you are sharing from a separate device, it may be best to connect that to your Scarlett with a cable that can connect to the TRS inputs on Scarlett. I'm not sure I fully understand your setup however, it may be best to reach out to our support team to discuss this further. You can reach them via email, chat, or phone at the link below: bit.ly/FocusriteSupport

In that case, this setup should work. You may need to check Zoom iOS audio interface compatibility, but no loopback is required if you are sending audio via a receiver into one of the inputs. You also may need to see if iOS zoom can accept two inputs from an interface, if you are using a 4th gen Scarlett you can combine the two inputs digitally. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.

Scarlett provides the connectivity and conversion needed to bring signals from microphones, instruments, and line-level sources into your iPad. It also offers outputs for routing all audio from the iPad. Mixing signal levels and routing audio within apps is managed by the software you're using on the iPad. Scarlett itself does not have built-in functionality for mixing or signal routing unless it's connected to a Mac or Windows PC and used with Focusrite Control or Focusrite Control 2.

Hi, Thank you for reaching out - we'd be happy to assist you. I just want to make sure I fully understand your question. When Scarlett is connected to your iPad, it becomes the primary audio device for all audio functions on the tablet. This means you'll be able to adjust the input levels for microphones and instruments directly on the Scarlett, as well as control the output levels for any speakers or headphones connected to it. Additionally, once Scarlett is connected, the iPad’s onboard speakers and headphone jack will no longer be active. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.

Thanks for some of the help. Currently , iPad OS recognizes the device and locks the volume buttons on the iPad to leave audio control up to the interface. I understand why this is the case, but it also seems to mean the interface doesn’t recognize the iPad it as it’s own separate input/line or it does and neither the iPad, interface, or software provides any dial for strictly the iPad’s audio. This makes controlling the iPad’s audio in relation to the rest of the interface tricky. Are you aware of any solutions to this JUST using the iPad without a separate computer/interface?

Hi, thank you for reaching out, we're sorry to hear you are having trouble. It is worth noting if you are using a 3rd generation Scarlett Solo the single monitor knob controls the output level of both the headphone output and the speaker outputs. Also, when your Scarlett is connected to a computer or iOS device, it takes over as the main audio device, and all computer audio devices (onboard mic, speakers, and headphone jack) will not be functional. If your headphone output is setup correctly, and not outputting audio, you may want to try connecting your Scarlett to a computer, opening Focusrite Control, and navigating to File--->Restore Factory defaults. If none of this helps, please reach out to the support team at the link below for further assistance. support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new

Scarlett are USB Class Compliant devices, meaning they're plug-and-play on macOS and iOS as they use Apple Core Audio. As a result, no Mac drivers exist as they aren't required. For use with Windows, you just need to install the Focusrite ASIO driver for your device that's available from the 'Downloads' section of our website.

Couple Questions: 1. Which Anker adapter did you use for this? 2. Do I absolutely need garage band? I was planning on recording myself playing piano with the regular camera, I've seen people do this with the older ipad models but I'm not sure if it'd work with USBC models.

Here we used an 'Anker PowerExpander+ 7-in-1 USB-C PD Ethernet Hub' but any good-quality, powered USB hub should work well. No. When connected successfully, Scarlett will be able to pass audio into any compatible audio app. You can certainly record audio straight into the camera app. If you're using a USB-C iPad, you may find that you can simply connect directly using that connection. Generally speaking, USB-C iPads are able to provide sufficient power for Scarlett to function.

In terms of iOS compatibility, only Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen are officially supported, specifically when used with the USB-C iPad Pro. That said, we would expect Scarlett to be able to transmit audio when connected to other models, providing it has adequate power, as Scarlett are USB class compliant devices. Whether or not an additional USB device will be able to draw sufficient power and also establish a connection with your iPad will depend on how you choose to connect and provide power.
