Well done! Nice presentation. I play clarinet and use Band In A Box for my backing tracks. Easy peasy! I have found Garage Band ( for my non-techie brain) to be just slightly less confusing than Hawking’s ‘A Brief History of Time’. But I would like to record directly to my computer etc, so your tutorial was instructive. Thank you!

With the iPad Pro 2018 and 2020, you don't need a powered USB hub. You can just take a USB-A to USB-C converter for the audio interface cable, it will get power directly from the iPad.

Great presentation and very helpful in all respects. I dig GB, people have to put in the back of the room but its a very powerful tool. GearTest.tv_Tech so I’ve been recording music on GarageBand/iPad Pro.. using an irig pro duo, audio out with just headphones. I use the ToneBridge app to get the sounds I want for my guitars and bass. Now I’d try to record a track of me singing with using the irig pro to plug my mic in, now this is the irig condenser mic that came with the irig studio set. While I’m recording my vocals it sounds echo and too sensitive. But when I play the recording it sounds different. Should I get and audio interface, or a better mic, or is it both? You can check out the stuff on my channel on the sound quality, but no vocals.

@@kallusmusicchannel7261 I've never used the iRig, so I can't say for sure. The only time I've run into a similar situation was recording with direct monitoring while also having monitoring enabled in Garageband. That caused a slight echo. I found out to use either direct monitoring or Garageband monitoring, but not both simultaneously. Not sure if that's the same issue you're having, but that's all I know to check.

I've never used the Apogee One either, but I'll try to help. Does it look like the interface is powering on correctly? If so, try downloading the Rode Reporter app that I mentioned in the other video and see which microphone it displays at the top of the app. That should tell us if the iPad is at least seeing the interface.

Exactly what I am hoping to do, record vocal and guitar using my audio interface to GB on iPad. I have ordered a powered USB hub, my iPad Air has a USB-C port so have ordered a splitter that gives me USB-A and C, plus HDMI (may be handy for something else). I am a complete beginner with an iPad and GB, so thank you for a simple and clear tutorial to get me started.

Actually, my 2020 iPad has a usb-c port which gives enough power so the USB hub isn't needed, have sent it back.

Hi great video! I have the same audio interface. I am trying to use it with my IPAD but it only powers on when I put 3AAA batteries . With PC it works fine either with the USB cable or DC power. When I put on TAB mode plugged to DC cable it won’t power on . When I try use computer mode and DC power the IPad won’t detect the interface . So it has to be on tablet mode. Which mode did you use to connect ?

Hi I just bought a full setup: Rode Nt1a mic, scarlett 2i2, the adaptor to get it to plug into iphone, and I have a laptop or a usb mains outlet that I thought I could use - am I going to be needing a usb hub as well? I don't have any videos on it, but you should be able to use a 1/4" cable from the guitar/keyboard and plug it directly into the front of the interface.

I was thinking of running my music coming out of a mixer to my Ipad/Iphone, so that I can Airplay the music to HomePod or other Airplay speakers. My question is 1) Do I need the audio interface to do this? 2) And if yes, after running the music through the audio interface like you do to the Ipad, what other app or how do I play the music that is coming into the Ipad? (So that ultimately, I can Airplay it out to other speakers)

Can you help me, my iPad won’t charge at the same time as being plugged in with the interface ? It’s neither cables as both of them work When being plugged in individually. I am using the sabrent USB port you recommend. And the Apple official extension cable ? Any help would be appreciated. My charging wire is also Apple official. Could it be anything to do with the plug? I bought a universal power supply that supply’s the 5 Vaults required.

I just posted a video where I tested this, but the answer is yes! The audio interface works well with the camera app. You should be able to use the ID44 with no issues.

There may be other recording apps that list which input is being used, but with GarageBand I just make a quite noise very close to the external microphone to see if it shows up on the level meter.

Hi, I went out and bought the apple adapter and I already had a powered usb hub, but I can't get the ipad to recognise it. It's an old audio interface M-audio Quattro, I also tried it on my alesis i/o dock mkii which doesn't work either. These ipads seem to be very fussy, can you recommend an audio interface that will work please? Ideally one which also has midi so I can play the synth apps with a keyboard. Cheers Gary
