why not use the ssl for monitoring for headphones, instead of having the buffer in Protools ruin the timing? That's how I have it set up... the vocalist has no need to hear any delay whatsoever.
@hauntedbytheliving11759 ай бұрын
Exactly my thoughts as a console guy… it’s likely he understands that most people don’t have a console and will need to know how to fix the latency… or perhaps he has no hardware reverb for the singer’s performance

Awesome Video , I noticed most people like to keep the threashold on 10 in the cl 1b for tracking , do you believe the same can apply if I used the plugin version in the mixing phase?
@thomasvopstal9 ай бұрын
Thanks! The threshold is completely dependent on input level and amount of compression you want to apply. I’d recommend not sticking to a specific value on the knob itself, but try to listen to where the amount of compression sounds best.

I saw a dogs distance from a mixing console, but i did not see a singer's distances from a mic in different sections of a song. Is setting a compressor on a soft parts on purpose ? I would also like to see a nice reverb that was present all the time during the recording. Otherwise, the result is wonderful. Great work !

I have a question. I noticed you had each section of the lead vocal in separate tracks. For example, Verse 1 in it's own track, hook 1 in it's own track, etc. Can you explain the concept behind that?
@thomasvopstal9 ай бұрын
Yeah, it just makes it easier for me when playlisting. Once comped, the verses and hooks will be put on their dedicated tracks for mixing
@emilyberezansky34932 ай бұрын
You won’t have any delay if you’re not monitoring from pro tools. Monitor from your interface (looks like you are using the UA) or at very best , split the signal to the ssl before going to the interface and let her get the 2 buss mix and the vocal from the ssl.
@thomasvopstal2 ай бұрын
Yes, you can do that for sure. However i like to stay in control in protools and apply effects that the artist can listen to while tracking. Protools is very capable of low enough latency for tracking like we did in this video.
