Can i suggest you try Reaper as your DAW. The learning curve will be well worth it. Also full functionality is available for ever to become accustomed. Most people buy it aftsr a short while using it.

Yeah I've heard lots of good things about it! My problem is between working FT, playing in a band and trying to maintain my channel, there's simply no time for learning any DAW. Hello Sir, thank you for your amazing videos. I exported the smf to a usb stick and move it to cakewalk, and it is possible to open it and I can play it but I cannot hear anything, not even sure how to load de midi dirver into the system. Any idea?

Hi there - not too familiar with cakewalk (and I never actually record in midi myself), but if it’s drivers you need go to the product page for the 473 on Yamahas website and in the downloads section there will be a driver (steinberg I think). Hi! Good videos on this instrument.. one thing i am not finding is if you can assign separate midi channels to the parts or accompaniments on the instrument? Drums on: 10 Bass on: 1 Acc on: 2 etc. etc. i can not Find this in the manual or midi implimentation. Cheers. :)

Hi there; never been a MIDI wizard, so I've never tried anything like that to be honest. I have exported MIDI recordings to Garageband on my iPad and the instruments do come in on separate tracks if that's what you're asking? Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

@@djcolinturnbull Look on Yamaha's website in the documentation for the E473/EW425 for the Data List (not the main manual). I think that might have what you need. And thinking back to when I exported to Garageband I do remember the metronome came in as a track which was weird, and I think the drums may have come in as an instrument track and I had to mess with it (sorry was a while ago don't remember the specifics)

Can we record directly to USB drive?

I'm not sure if there is a max size or not; there is a list of compatible USB drives on Yamaha's website here: ca.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/0/1556370/en-PSR-E473_EW425.pdf Every USB flash drive I have tried so far has worked ok. I use the SanDisk 32GB Cruzer Glide USB 2.0 Flash Drive - SDCZ60-032G-B35 which was on the PDF list of compatible USB drives that Piano Tone posted a link to. 32GB is the max capacity on that list. However, I don't know why a higher capacity drive wouldn't work. I could have saved some money buying, say, a 128GB USB drive rather than four 32GB USB drives, but I decided not to take a chance, since there's no 128GB drives on the list. I suppose that a representative of Yamaha could answer the question, but I have been too lazy so far to do that.

Hi Piano Tone! Hey, can I record audio directly to USB Flash Drive on the ew425? I thought yes, but can't find it in the manual. My desktop computer is in another room. Don't have a laptop. So, if the answer is no, then I'll just have to move the keyboard to where the computer is I guess. I've been just recording on the keyboard (midi sequencer), and occasionally on my phone (Android, mp4). I suppose another alternative is to get a DAW for my tablet, and record audio directly to that, then I can transfer the .wav files easily enough to my computer. Thanks. Still working on several ideas. When I get something that seems halfway decent, then I'll put it online and post a link to it in a comment on one of your more recent ew425 vids. 😃👍

Hey Thomas! Yes you can - hold down shift and press the same record button you use for midi and it will record to the flash drive :)

Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing a Yamaha E 473 but before I do I want to know if I can create my own songs and backing tracks from scratch on that unit. If I can't do that on the E473 could you suggest a keyboard(s) in basically the same price range that will have mic input, drums, bass, etc and allow me to create my own songs ? Thanks

The videos in this series are all about recording multi track MIDI songs which you can definitely use as backing tracks, check out the others as well (you can’t include vocals in the MIDI recordings though - but if you needed to you could make an audio recording of your MIDI song once it’s done and then add vocals to that).
