The USB Audio Interface found in e363 & e463 is a major advantage over Yamaha's higher models. I use it extensively to connect my e363 arranger keyboard DIRECTLY to my laptop and stream clean (digital) audio to Audacity where I quickly record and further edit, apply effects and enhance the sound and save as MP3. This feature is however NOT found in my premium s670 so I have to use the tedious USB disk-on-key method (which I often give up). Luckily Yamaha understood the need and implemented it in their new (rather expensive) psr-sx600. Good thinking.

Very nice and detailed tutorial! I've tried this on my keyboard and 100% works! I use this tutorial to create song in my KZbin channel recently. Thanks sir! Notes : The Live Control Knobs can be used as Midi controller too. If you are using Spitfire Audio LABS, just right click on the control (i.e. Reverb), select Learn Midi automation, and just turn any live control knobs, and its should work.

You have gotten me totally interested in buying a relatively inexpensive Yamaha keyboard that can play midi files. I have used Cakewalk Sonar for years, and have written many complex songs with many tracks on each song, primarily using soft synths and vocals (and some live instrument recording). Only once 20 years ago did I perform live using numerous midi tracks from a laptop controlling a synth module, while I played some live keyboard and sang. I am getting the bug to try to do something like that again, but make it as simple as possible. It seems that I should be able to perfectly craft a song in Cakewalk controlling sounds on one Yamaha keyboard. Then I think I should be able to play the song (and other songs) by creating midi files and put them on a USB drive. HOWEVER, best I can tell, these keyboards are limited to only 6 tracks. One thing I do a lot is many parameter changes (ex: filter sweeps), which I THINK I can combine onto a single midi track. However, I wonder if I can program on a track changes to the keyboard through midi that would change things like reverb time. I suppose Yamaha could have made individual effects that correlate with a particular track (synth sound). As I write this, I am starting to wonder whether or not I am trying to do more than this cheaper technology was designed for. I would greatly appreciate your insight (or insight from another talented song programmer). Thanks!

I am trying to do this on the Yamaha DGX670 and I have been able to record an audio track and play it back but I have been unable to record the Soft Piano. Could you please explain how to setup the keyboard and Cakewalk so that the MIDI Soft Piano plug in will be recorded and not my local strings? You describe how to use Function Control in this tutorial but the Yamaha DGX670 only has a MIDI control section and I can't figure out the appropriate settings. Your help would be greatly appreciated by me and my fellow DGX670 subscribers.Welcome to Gboard clipboard, any text that you copy will be saved here.

Hello Jeremy... I have psr e 463 and i'd like to ask you about how do we add the other voicees into the Yamaha PSR E 463?
@bryangl14 жыл бұрын
Indra - if I may try to help. The extra voices aren't being added into the Yamaha keyboard but into the music creation program in the computer (a DAW - stands for Digital Audio Workstation). Jeremy is showing a simple introduction to using a DAW (in this case, Cakewalk, which is both a very good DAW and also free). Getting familiar with a DAW is fun and there's a huge range of instruments and orchestras available for free. Here Jeremy has used a free piano available from Spitfire (there are several free 'Pianos", I suspect Jeremy may have been using the free "Soft Piano" although there's another Soft Piano, a little better, for $25), At Spitfire as well as voices and orchestras you pay for, they have a free series under the title LABS which includes a Choir (not as good as the paid-for voice Jeremy used, but still quite good). Exploring music-making with a DAW can be lots of fun but also very rewarding. N.B. From Spitfire as well as voices etc aimed for the pop market, you can also get a version of the BBC Symphony orchestra for free (if that offer is still available - if not, it's $49.)
